I'm looking for a campground within 2 or 3 hours of Buffalo in any direction that is close to a town with restaurants and bars. We will be traveling in a few weeks for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary and would like a night out as well as a few nights camping. We will not have a car, so we must rely on either walking or cabs...Anyone have any ideas ??

Erie, PA has two camp grounds in the city limits but have no clue on taxi service and they are too secluded to walk to restaurants. However, we love the city and the nature available on Presque isle. www. sarascampground. com

Sara's is located on the bike path to the pennisula and beautiful natural setting. Note that the pennisula is about 10 miles long so biking to see the entire thing would be a chore for most of us.

If you are casino friendly you could hang at Salamanca, NY or Presque Isle Downs, Erie, PA without hook ups.

Some great campgrounds in the area, but all require transportation.
On the Canadian side is a KOA that has good transportation into the FAlls.
Four Mile Creek near Lewiston is an awesome campground.
Maybe rent a car for a few days.

Turning Stone is great but I'm not sure they have alcohol. They didn't used to but maybe things have changed. Good spot because they bring you via bus back and forth from your campsite to the casino/restaurants. One other thought would be Watkins Glen and stay at Clute Memorial Park. You are withihn walking distance to the restaurants and bars right in town and the Lake is across the street. Those are the ohly two the come to mind.

I guess I should qualify...Im actually in Lewiston. Looking for a getaway from here. I was at turning stone in June and I think the bars are only open for special events. I was there with a fire convention and you had to have you convention "braclet" to get into the bars if I remember correctly.

Walkins Glen State Park. Walkable to town thru the glen. Would not recommend it in the dark. They have a shuttle during the day time, but think the last run is at 5:30. Don't know if there is cab service.

And, the Village of Walkins Glenn has a campground. W.W. CLUTE MEMORIAL PARK
and Campground
. It is right in town across from the beach!!! Almost forgot that one. Oh, see Twins 89 got it first, but now you have a link.

You could also try the KOA just outside of Watkins Glen.
As long as RV isn't too big it shouldn't be a problem getting around.
