I took our 04 Tioga 26Q to Auto Research Center, 7527 Park Ave. Garden Grove, CA for its first smog check today. ( Near Garden Grove Blvd and Western Ave). Drove it onto their small lot, the tech parked it in the alley next to the building and did the test. I didn't have to remove the dog house. It passed with no problem and the total charge was $68. Continued down the alley, right on Park St and right on Western and home again. Easy in and out. Been going there for years for car smog tests.
I think my 2004 is going to have to be smoged next month when the registration comes due. As I undestand it all they have to hook up is a connector to the OBD III port in the cab and put the probe in the tailpipe. Since it won't fit on the Dyno like a car, they just do a static test. They also test the gas cap. But what I am not sure of, do they still have to put a lead on the number 1 spark plug?

They told me they don't have to get under the doghouse because there's no distributor, mine is an '03. The guy who did it last time charged me $20 extra to remove the doghouse, I didn't know he was screwing me until I got it done again with an honest guy.

Wow, you are pretty close to me. I live near the intersection of Lamson and Valley View.
Didn't watch test, sat in waiting room. I called first and asked if they could take me, tech said any time. Good idea to call in case they have another MH in the alley waiting for testing.1-(714)893-3829
I took mine to Perfect Auto, on Lake Forest Drive and Dimension in Lake Forest, near where I live. They did the work infront of their shop---it was kinda in the way, but they were not busy. I think they said 10,000 pounds and great doesnt need the dyno. I passed but got caught up in the gas cap test--some boxes underneath I guess were leaking---seemed like a scam to me, but what can you do ?

I had mine smogged near there but over on Bake Pky. Anyways I had the same issue with the gas cap, they sold me a new one.
It ended up that the problem wasn't the gas cap, but a dryed out and cracked vent hose underneath...

Me too--$100 to diagnose the leak, $100 to find the leak and $100 to fix the leak--and a $100 discount for new custom or some kind of BS like that.
What the name of the place on Bake; Bake and Trabucco ? I can not imagine any locations on Bake.
PS--I am taking my RV to Aamco transmission in Santa Ana tomorrow because the one in Lake Forest is too small to even fit a pick up truck. Its a long way to have a friend come pick me up, etc.
