Ok, so this one has been brewing for a long time...

We have a typical slide-out with a pull out couch and dinette booth....

Couple of things we never really liked were that the couch is in a terrible position to watch TV and not very comfortable... And while it is a comfortable pull out bed, if you pull it out, it reaches all the way to the kitchen cabinets and you can not get from the back of the trailer to the bathroom in the middle of the night...

here are the before photos

looking forward

looking back

Last trip out was actually the first time we ever put down the dinette table and we came up with this plan..

first we started by making a platform to span the dinette seats... Our tabletop did not fit very well and I was concerned that over time it would sag and prevent us from using as a table... 3/4 plywood with three small stringers glued and nailed underneath...

I put two small nails to keep it from shifting... Also a coat of polyurethane to seal it... I also removed the bases for the table so we can use the space underneath for storage..

Then I needed to make a one piece base cushion... 44"x72"x5" thick...

Basically made a large bag out of fabric to cover a piece of foam with...

I thought I had an inside line on a piece of foam for about $50, but it fell though... getting quotes, I got prices from $125 to $350... I ended up buying three full size foam mattress toppers 2" thick for $34 each. laid them on top of each other and trimmed them to size with an electric knife... Worked out very well in the end run... Also covered a couple of regular pillows and a body pillow in the same fabric to act as bolsters... The we re-used the same seat backs... here is the final result... Kind of like a big day bed...

Lastly we needed a place to eat and decided to do a table and chairs... We thought about buying a new set, but ended up raiding some 2nd hand shops and found a table and each of us picked our own unique chairs... I refinished the top of the table only, everything else was just cleaned well and left as it... It's a bit eclectic, but very fun..

Our space is a little tight for the table, but I think we will shift it square against the wall for traveling, then turn it 45 degrees when camped... Our first trip with the new layout is this weekend, so I am sure we will hash it out then...

Here is a breakdown of the cost...

table and chairs ~$110

day bed foam and fabric ~$240

Then it was just labor.... Also everything can go as is or be shifted back to original layout when we sell the TT, but we felt this will get us another 3-4 years until the kids are gone and we get our two person fiver...

Bryan

PS, last mod, after the pictures was to remove the green fabric covered vertical sides from the valences. have always hated them and they went bye bye, with the top sections remaining..

Does the job for ya... couple of questions though.... now you don't have the fold out bed like before and off the top of my head...why didn't you just switch em, put the couch where the dinette was & dinette where the couch was...that's how my set up is built.

I would have had to rip our the dinette benches, which would have caused quite a bit of wall damage and also one of the benches has an outside door to it that would have been exposed.. I guess the couch would have covered it all, but switching them would not have fixed the issue with the couch not being a good place to watch TV from and the bed would not extend at all in the rear location..

Good idea though...

Your new day bed/sofa looks very uncomfortable. Now way to reast your back aga9inst anything while sitting there. Very much like sitting on a stool. If it floats your boat, then thats grand. Its not for me.

I love that idea. I could never let anyone sleep on my table. I really like your table and chairs. Love the idea of each person choosing their own chair. I am a country girl with a house that everyone says looks like a Cracker Barrel, so I would enjoy that dinette very much. Have wonderful trips with the new mods.

That is very nice, you did a great job. I love the little table and chairs. Your changes really make your trailer unique.

an update after the first trip... The "Mosh Pit" as it has been named was a huge hit with the family and our friends that we camped with...

The table saw many games of cards and was a great change as well...

I like it. My setup is opposite yours where my sleeper/couch and dinette are reversed but I'd still like to do what you did. I hate the couch in mine now, plus I'd rather have a "real" table where the dinette is...

I did somewhat the same thing. i had about the same arrangement as you, but reversed. i took out the sleeper bed, (had never been slept on) out and sold that sucker on craigs list in about one hour. i had a recliner tha was fairly small, so i put it in place of one of the chairs that i had in the rear and put that side chair in the space where the sofa was.. i am in the process of building a small computer table to put in part of the space. then Since i travel alone , I am going to take out the bench seats and table and get two chairs and a smaller table to eat on. Much roomier arrangement.
