I own a 2004 Jeep Liberty / Limited with Good Year Wrangler Tires P235/70R16. The Jeep has 24,000 miles on it and the road noise we have experienced seems to be getting worse. We use this car a toad. The tires are cupped and I have just had it lined up. I will be replacing all the tires when I return home but do not want to replace them with the same brand if that is what is causing the problem. The road noise is so loud we cannot drive with the rear winds in the down position.
Thank you in advance for any info regarding this matter.

i was looking into a Jeep Lib...for a toad...I test drove it...did't buy it because of the noise...I have owned two jeep wranglers, and they were good vechiles, but the Liberty seems to be cheaply made...I tow an 05 Malibu ..which is a good vehicle for towing and besides I get about 30 mpg around town with it...
best of luck

camper_ron.....Most tires get louder as they get older. There is less rubber and it begins to harden, making the tires louder. I've noticed that the Goodyears seem to do this more than most.
When you purchase new tires, check the tread wear numbers. These numbers tell you how long they should last. The only issue is that the softer the rubber, the quicker they wear.

I have a 2007 Liberty with 41,000 driving miles, not towed. Tire noise from cupped tires can be and is annoying. I think that is the noise your hearing. I have rotated our tires every 18,000 miles and rebalanced them. I think by looking at them we can get another 25,000 miles. I personally don't find the tire noise bothersome, but mine are not cupped or wearing funny.

have a 05 liberty with 62,000 miles and have had new tires a few times and never have had any noise that you speak of. it came with the goodyear wrangler ST's and have always replaced them with the same. we use it as a toad and the different sets tires had about 85,000 miles. no noise yet.

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty. I tow it also. Bought it used. The dealer bought and put on new Yokohama Geolander tires when I bought it and they have been fine. I had and towed a Wrangler before this Liberty. One of the big reasons I got rid of it was the road noise from the tires, wind noise and such. The Wrangler was so bad that on the highway I could not hear the radio. The Liberty has been great. Cupped and worn tires will cause a lot of noise. Some people rotate 4WD off road tires same pattern as they do street tires and this should not be done IMO. That can also cause a noise. Replace the tires and I bet it will go away. The Liberty is not my daily driver but it has been a great and very dependable little vehicle. I have not had to do ONE thing to it except regular routine maintenance like oil changes. I don't notice a tire noise that is annoying. Until I read your post I never thought about a tire noise with it.

We had the exact same problem with our 2006 Jeep Rubicon, the solution was easy. We jacked up the gas cap and drove a 2006 Honda CR-V under it. Very quiet, very low rolling resistance, 25 mpg and more room inside. Also, the best A/C I've ever had in a car.
