It is possible to get a melted hole if you have a rear exhaust or a small wear hole if it rubs on something but you just trim the edges of the hole and is okay from then on. It doesn't spread. We love our PAT! We have the full flap, too, but the Saturn we towed thru Alaska, before we got the PAT, had about a thousand flea bites in the windshield and, I'm sure, many more than that in the paint. New toad has none with the PAT.

I just got rid of the bra I had on my seabring because it got sand behind it and did more damage than the pebbles.

Wow, after the mixed responses here on bra, flap or PAT I've decided NOT to buy any of them or tow 4-down (which I had been considering for the convenience)....I'll just keep putting the Wrangler on the open trailer where it has ridden for 4 years without ANY damage from road debris......IMHO, of course

Yup, but our rock guard across the back has the individual rubber strips.

Look under Dinghy Towing and do a search using rock guard, mud flaps etc and you will find a lot of information.

We have a full mupflap across the back and use a Coastline bra. No problems, leave it on in the rain. I just throw it over the picnic table when I take it off to dry.

Some mud flaps offer more protection for the toad. The thick solid rubber ones are my pick. I"ve towed over 60,000 miles and never had a problem with damage to the tow from road debris or rocks. My coach has a factory installed heavy rubber, full width flap that does a good job of protecting the tow.
The flaps made of the brush like material, I would guess, could let more rocks and debris pass through to causes damage.

road grime gets under a bra and scratches the paint..if your tow isn't clean then this surface gets rubbed by the bra flapping in the wind...towing with a bra when its raining is a total disaster...all that spoil from your vehicle and those around and passing you gets under the bra and its next to impossible to remove those itty bitty stones that get imbeded in that fuzzy protective material on the under side...BEST BET..use a mudflap and a portable rock shield.. nothing i've seen is 100% bullet proof....i got a 2FER..was towing my toad down the i15 with my truck using my protective shield..a large rock hit my windshield on my truck went over the top and nailed my toad almost in the same spot...HAD FUN trying to SPLAIN that to my ins. carrier...good luck

My 'car bra' covers the whole front of the Honda and onto the windshield. In 20,000 miles of towing with the cover, my paint looks fine. I keep the Honda waxed so that the felt back glides easily over the paint. Also, rain has never been a problem with the cover. I wash and dry it after each trip.
