How many of you store stuff on the rear bumper? How do you do it... using a hitch receiver adapter on the bumper? add/weld a hitch receiver to the frame?, other options?

I'm sure I'm not alone on this issue but I wish I had more storage space and would like to add some kind of storage unit to the back of the trailer.

Regards...

I had a receiver welded onto the back bumper, with a support welded behind the bumper

I installed the lights on the hitch-haul and intend on moving the receiver over to the center of the trailer. Presently, I had to move the spare tire over to the passenger side. With an extension for the receiver, I should be able to get the spare back closer to the center

Just remember, whatever you put on the back, takes weight off the tongue. It's like a fulcrum - the further away from the axels, the more dramatic the effect. There was probably about 50-60 lbs on the platform as shown. I had some significant sway at 60mph - but once I filled my freshwater tank, the sway went away. I usually don't travel with a full tank - usually just under 1/3 full.

Watch what you store most rear bumpers won't hold more than 150lbs and that includes the spare tire. They are not welded very well most are just tacked on.

Not to be a wet blanket on this subject. I was going to put a bike rack on my rear bumper. After being told by Starcraft that I would void the warranty I thought better. Check first.

I like it - it sure looks nice. But, where did you hide the spare tire? And what about the extra weight your diamond plate box packs with it? With just my hitch-haul and bag, I haven't got near the weight you have with your set-up. To each his own, but with the weight of your set-up and what I saw packed in it, what do you do for counter-balance? I may be naive about some of this, but I've experienced some significant sway by adding weight to the back of both a PUP and HTT and not counter-balancing it on the other end.

Nice options everyone. I would be looking to store the dirty stuff in the rear storage area. Perhaps 2 bins, one for all the sewer components and the other for tarps, rug, chocks, and other stuff that gets dirty while camping. I wouldn't expect that to be too heavy... but something to keep in mind based upon the responses to this topic.

I had checked with Starcraft on the bumper rating and they stated the bumper does not have an official rating although on certain models the spare tire is mounted there. My trailer, the spare is in the front. They also stated that any permanent mod to the frame would void the warranty...
