The weight of my slide being in while traveling has made a mess of my floor, but it took about 3yrs.. I'm going back to carpet first chance I get, because I even used upsidedown carpets under the slide to help stop the scratching of the floor, and that didn't work either. Even my fold out bed legs made dents in the floor, so the carpet is going back in.
Maybe "floating" is a not so accurate term - I dunno - all I can share is that we removed our forward carpet and vinyl flooring in the galley area and replaced with laminate planks.
I WOULD NOT want them glued or nailed to or into the subfloor because if by accident we damaged a plank I can easily pull the molding, un"snap" the planks to remove the damaged one and replace with a new one and re"snap" everything back together.
Our laminate has been installed and in use for three years now and it has not warped or given us any problem installed as per the "floating" instructions and it looks like new.

This sounds like a good idea for future repairing! Where did you purchase your snap in planks?
