Good Morning Everyone, It is a wonderful 40* here and a lovely overcast sky. It sounds like you all are having fun, nice warm fire and such. Due to the condition of the weather, I think we are going to go and find wineries. Going to stay warm sampling and finding antique malls.

If I remember correctly when it was announced that Randy & Stephanie were not going to have the party Steve asked if anyone would like to host it.
NO ONE OFFERED on this forum!
Steve waited a week or so, then offered to open his and Sheryl's home to this group.
NO ONE SAID ANYTHING AGAIN!
Now all of a sudden people are complaining about face slapping and whether we're a democracy or not.
GROW UP PEOPLE!
You've completely missed the point. The point is that if a certain someone in the group doesn't like an idea or a location, or whatever, then that is that. No further discussion is permitted.
"NO ONE OFFERED on this forum!"
Interesting choice of words, since the offer was not posted on the forum. It wasn't posted on the forum until AFTER the initial NO!

Haven't heard any volunteers for the Christmas party. If no one speaks up I guess it'll be here.

I think it would be quite fitting that the Christmas Party be held at the home of the Reverend. Congrats!
**** end of history lesson ****
It's interesting my original post got deleted along with a few others!
No I didn't miss anyone's point, if some suggestion is being offered for the group it should be done in public for the group to think/decide, not little chit-chat in private.
And my point since you missed it was that several days to a week or so went by with no public discussion about a place so someone had to step up and make a decision so other people not privy to the private chit-chat can make plans to attend.

I'm sorry that Duane didn't come up with his idea in a manner timely enough to suit some. But because Steve had offered his place as the venue Duane felt it best to contact him in private to discuss it with him. That to me was the right thing to do.
When I heard about I thought it was a good idea so I asked Duane if he had mentioned it to anyone else. He said no, so I suggested he talk to a few people to get their feedback. You see, we had lunch with Steve and Sharyl on October 4th and we discussed the venue of the Christmas Party. It was clear that they were hoping for another venue. Duane's plan seemed the perfect solution. By the way, we had dinner with Duane and Annetta that same day, so they were made aware of the situation at that time.
Obviously Dan felt it was an idea worth further discussion as well. That's when it made it to the Forum.
In the current economic climate any time people can save some green and still get together and enjoy life is good thing in my book. $30 per night savings could represent the gas to get there and back. And some groceries. Maybe even a beverage or two of choice . Throw in an indoor pool, hottub, and free use of the clubhouse only makes it better.
It appears that there are others that think it's an idea worth exploring based on subsequent posts. I believe my view on the subject has been thoroughly expressed. I will refrain from further posts on the subject unless specifically asked a question.
Roger, I have a specific question: if, as you say, Steve and Sharyl indicated they were indeed looking for a different venue other than their home, and if this idea proposed by Duane has all these benefits, and since this apparently was discussed in private by all those mentioned, why then was the idea tabled and not discussed on the forum as suggested by Mick? Was there some kind of disconnect or was there some reason it was turned down? Now you have my curiousity aroused.
Not sure why Duane was told no, but because he was told no I thought it a good idea to put some feelers out to see how some others felt before posting anything. That's what I told Duane. The next thing I knew Dan made his post. The cat was out of the bag at that point so we just rolled with it.
NOT wanting to take sides, and not sure if anything is going on that weekend, but it would be easier for us to go to the place with the cabins. Much easier with the children to have an indoor pool and outdoor activities to keep them occupied. We will monitor and check our (i.e. the children's)activities if you need a commitment one way or the other. A hotel room for the five of us is less than fun.....been there, done that:-)
Again, we will monitor whatever the group decides upon.
Next up, CP for last weekend. Wonder if there will be snow on the ground?
OK, I don't plan on winning any popularity contests here, but I don't believe I was in the running anyway
Let me preface this by saying that this group is following the natural progression of any community where a group of people have joined together for a common cause, in this case camping. Individual personalities, belief systems, values, lifestyles, and preferences have surfaced, many of which differ from the norm of others. Therefore, there is conflict and dissention.
I am throwing a few suggestions on the table. First, ff there must be "sanctioned" and "unsanctioned" rallies for this group, why not have these submitted to the group at least two weeks prior to the final rally planning? That way everyone, especially those who cannot attend the final rally, have an opportunity to review the plan and then everyone submit a vote as to which rally each month be the "sanctioned" one. Any others can be "unsanctioned" but recognized. When there is a conflict, such as the upcoming Christmas party, why not submit all suggestions and vote?
Secondly is the auction money. Why not identify specific uses of this money that benefits all attendees, e.g. buying food or table service for the gatherings; flowers for sick members or deaths in the family; having a drawing each rally and paying for one night of member's camping; etc. Money has been used to buy T-shirts, but not everyone wants T-shirts or name tags. Allow the group to decide what this money is used for and provide accountability. If it is an usual circumstance, post on the forum and allow members to express their opinions.
I understand this may be a little late due to that the final rally is already underway, but perhaps it is not too late to make some changes.
