Apparently my definition of a general, carry around knife is different from others. I want something small and doesn't weigh a ton, nor do I want to have to carry it in any kind of a holster.
I carry a leatherman multi-tool.. Very well built.. I have carried several multi-tool kinves in my day.. There are only two that were worth it
one is the Genuine Leatherman Super Tool model 200 I have in front of me as I type
The other was a Sheffield, now discontinued.. Alas, I was flying to Boston and forgot to take it off my belt so I had to trash it before I got to the metal detector

I carry a small Leatherman- Mini in a sheath in my pocket. It's small, has a few tools, the tools don't lock which I consider a disadvantage...but in general it's real handy. I'm just careful with it, especially the knife...re; cutting myself.
I occasionally carry my Victorinox Swiss Tool...which I consider the best of the multi tools...although it is heavy, but all tools/blades are locking and the quality of the steel and tool is superb. It seems to be the best, in my arsenal. It has the most comfortable and best designed handle, and locking system. As the name implies, it's made in Switzerland. It's also not cheap, but you get what you pay for, I suppose.
I have an old Leatherman in my camera bag, but the blades don't lock...so I'm careful with it. Also the tools are not as rugged or have the same quality of steel as the Swiss Tool.
I have a newer Leatherman Charge (?) which has locking blades, steel seems stronger than my older Leatherman...good tool...keep it in my vehicle. I also like the plastic lining as it's easier on my hands than my old Leatherman.
I'm thinking of getting a Buck 119 camp knife to carry around on my belt, when I'm in the forests.
Anybody have a Buck 119..what do you think of them ?

That's what I use. There are some areas that whine about carrying a firearm, so I carry my 119, just in case. It is sharp and a fixed blade with some beef behind it, if you do have to use it against a hungry cougar or other carnivore.
I live on a farm. When you need something done quick and dirty, just a knife is fine. Kershaw , Buck, Benchmade, Gerber, any of their folding 3-4" bladed pocket specials with a pocket clip. American made and keep an edge. The Mini Griptilian by Benchmade is especially excellent and absolutely my favorite so far.

That's exactly the reason I want to carry a Buck 119 while out for my walks in forested areas. The Leathermen and the Swiss Tool are fine, but by the time you get the blade out, it takes too long.
Also carry a Gerber Diesel in a pouch on the belt when working around the house. All the blades lock. Still carry a small Swiss Army knife in the pocket for the tweezers and toothpick.

Case and Old Timer for my small pocket knifes. And a Kabar,S&W,or Case with I'm field dressing a big game animal.I also prefer mild steel instead of the 440ss.They might look a little rough but they hold a edge. Also some of the Case and better name knifes are made over seas now,So you need too look @ the blade and the box it comes in.
