After reversing the pos and neg wires during the marker light upgrade, there are now issues within the truck. Can you guys help me figure out where to start looking?

While stopped, key off, lights off, the parking lights, lights on buzzer, and a dome light stay on.

Pulling the fuse fixes the parking light (when it hasn't blown it) but not the dome light.

Vehicle in question is a 90 Suburban.

Thanks in advance.

You have most likely burned through some wires and have a short. This will cause blown fuses and the erratic lighting issues you described. You will need to trace the wires that relate to the affected lights and find the trouble spots and repair them. This will not be fun.

A voltmeter and continuity tester will make this job easier.

Kelly we need a little more info:
Trailer still hooked to truck?
marker lites on truck?
marker lites on Trailer? MH? pop-up? ect.
Did you try to remove marker lites wires to see if that helps?
99% of strange things going on with 12 volt stuff is ground.
either 12 volt positive is still grounded thru a light.
It sounds like you are feeding 12 volts or less back thru ground of truck.

Doubt that reversing the polarity would have toasted the wiring, fuses/breakers should have blown or tripped before burning wiring).

Most likely you have damaged the trucks computer. Most if not all stuff is routed through the "GEM" (Generic Energy Management)as Ford calls it (not sure what GM calls theirs) computer.

You might be looking at a trip to your local dealer.

If computer, I think many will reset if battery disconnected for ten minutes or so. Might save paying a dealer to do it.

I agree. Reversing the polarity will make some wires red hot and melt the insulation. I know from first hand experience. I installed a new battery that had been charged up backwards. Had to wrap some wires but no other damage.

ok well a 90 suburban does not have a body computer it is all relays and circuit breakers more than likely you have a short to ground somewhere but like someone else has said does it do itwhile the trailer is still hooked up or not if yes then the problem is in the trailer if not then the problem might be in the connector for the trailer or the wiring at the headlight switch sounds more like a headlight switch problem if the interior lights are staying on

I know what the problem in the trailer is, that should be no problem to fix.
The truck does it while hooked up or not. Right now the headlight switch is unplugged and it still lights up the parking lights.

I was planning to unwrap the trucks pigtail and work my way forward.

Kind of strange how pulling the 'marker/courtesy' fuse allows the dome light to stay on. Maybe I should start there.

the dome circuit is seperate from the marker fuse i'm thinking that the short would have to be in the pigtail or the connector for the headlamp switch does it have any burnt looking marks on the connector????

If your suburban is wired like my grandsons Cavalier (GM product) there is little hope for it. Why anyone would wire most of the lites hot(+) and ground(-) for the switch is beyond me. It seems bassakward to any common sense. You always minimize exposure to shorting, not maximize it.
