We just returned from the worse campground experience in our lifes. We booked at Camperland...great location...great amenities, but it is very crowded. At 11 p.m. the neighbors on all 4 sides of us were drunk and partying...music blared until 2:30 a.m....language was horrible...car alarms going off most the night...screaming and yelling...it was so bad that none of our party was able to sleep until about 3 a.m. when it finally calmed down. My husband went to their security who seemed afraid to confront the "gangs" that were partying there. Definitely not a safe or nice place for families. We left the next morning and checked into a nice hotel.

Sorry to hear about that. I have not stayed at that campground. I have stayed at the Thousand Trails in Jamul about 20 miles away. A delightful place that is very family oriented. Very well run. I have also stayed at the State park in Carlsbad. That park was very well managed and we had no issues with noise after hours. I have not stayed there but have heard that the RV park in Chula Vista is very good for families. And it is on the bay.

As I remember though back when I was a teen in the 60's that even then before the RV park that area was famous for wild parties. Of course I was not involved in anything like that back then.

Oh and Santee Lakes. A great kids park about 12 miles inland.

The Travel Life Directory Evals of Campland said it was noisy, crowded, cramped and over priced.
Hope you demanded and received a refund! Hope you submitted your Camp Reviews #1, #2, #3,
to warn others. Campland has a Good Sam Rating. You may want to contact Good Sam also.

Wow I'm sorry and surprised to hear this. Campland has always been pricy, but they used to be known as a great family beach camp, not for gangs! They inforced a curfew and the security would drive around in carts and tell people quite down and to turn off the noise. It has been a few years since I have been there, but our neighbors tent camp there a few times a year with 4 little kids and they always come back telling us what a good time they had.

Campland is aways full as far as I know. The economy should not be their excuse being lax on thier rules, or for not having the proper staff to uphold the park rules. Maybe they have new management that does not care? I could see on major holiday weekends being a bit more lax on the rules as you have a full park of people wanting to have a good time. But if what the OP said happened then I think a call to managment is a must and I would demand my money back. I would also let them know you are filing a poor rating for them on a few of the websites listed above, plus your post on RV.net and I would call Good Sam and let them know.

Sorry to hear this. Not to long ago I posted a suggestion to look at Campland to someone on RV.net who was looking for a beach camp in San Diego. I hope I did not steer them wrong.

Edit: Went to Camplands website and found this info. This is what I would read to them if they dont give you a full refund. I would ask where were the Rangers?
Campland rules,
Hospitality Rangers: Our Rangers are available to assist your needs and to ensure that all our campers are completely satisfied. Please feel free to stop a Ranger as they patrol for any assistance you may need. To contact a Ranger, call 858-581-4219. Use any house phone at Campland, located at A, D, G, M, N bathrooms or the Marina and outside Registration.

QUIET HOURS: are from 11:00 PM TO 8:00 AM. Please remember to turn down TV's and radios and to lower voices at 11:00 PM to allow your neighbors a good nights rest. All public parks close at 10 PM and reopen at 8 AM. If you are under the age of 18, please return to your campsite at 10 PM. Please turn off any generators after 9 PM.

Been there, experienced it and will never return for the exact reasons you mentioned. Nice park, but the kid zoo is out of control.

Part of this is the result of the new alcohol ban on the beach and in the parks, part of this is the result of closing campgrounds due to unwillingness to provide law enforcement, and part is simply that it's a holiday weekend and young folks want to party! There's less room for everyone to get out, so everyone suffers. We plan our trips before Memorial Day and after Labor Day to avoid the crowds. Just an opinion from someone who has lived in San Diego since '78.

it probably was due to a very crowded holiday weekend.

we stayed at Campland a couple of years ago for the Thanksgiving holiday. we totally enjoyed ot. We were being probably a little loud right after the curfew and the "security" in the cart came over immediately and told us to keep it down and we complied.
