If you knew what the number meant, you would clearly see the thing is geared way too high and that 6 speed makes the gearing even higher, not lower.

I think the fact that the new diesel is made in Mexico would be enough to turn me away.

Well, You can have a Fiat, or a Government Motors or the only truck who didn't take or need bail out money but with a new engine assembled in Mexico.

I take the latter ANY day.

Hey Capt, come to AZ and drive mine. You'll be dissappointed also. Sure does a great job with no load though!

I'm not sure I see the problem. If the final drive ratio is higher than you want at any given time, just drop to the next lower gear.

If you "feel" that your 6.4 is underpowered towing a 31 foot fifth wheel, I recommend that you pay your dealership a visit. Have you changed the fuel filters iaw the maintenance schedule, drained the water seperator monthly? Reason I ask, I towed almost 32,000lbs combined up 8% grades at altitude and never felt the truck was underpowered or struggled with the load, maintaining a decent road speed the entire climb. I suspect something is amiss with your truck.

Doesn't work that way, there are more gears in the transmission than on the selector and the computer decides what to do regardless of where you place the selector.

Once the territorial Ford rep puts a data recorder on the truck and takes it for a drive with my trailers in tow I don't think there's much room for argument. The engineers look at the data and say it's doing what it's supposed to do. I have 3.73 gears, what do you have? If you have the 4.30 or 4.88 you are rated for 29000 or 33000GCW respectively. I'm rated for 23000 GCW and that's what it weighs. Am I happy about it? No, but as the engineers said, trade it in for what Capt Skup has, an F450 will do the job! BTW all of your filter suggestions were done prior to the rep taking it.

I don't know how you would label a Cummins. American made? I read that most of the internals are sourced from Cummins factories in India. I am not knocking Cummins, it is my engine of choice when I purchase the next boat.
