I may go to Croton-on-Hudson to visit kin. I can handle city driving but am a bit freaked out about getting this close to NYC. I've read stuff like outside lane is 10', inside lane 13', no RV's on parkways, etc. Anyone ever drive up that way from Lancaster, PA? Should I hire a driver or escort, or what? Mapquest has me going on sawmill parkway as noted on this. Thanks.

We stayed there; it is fine!!! You'll need to stay in the lane marked for higher traffic. I know there are parkways you cannot take an rv on but we had no difficulty. We went from Rochester area and took the route near West Point and crossed the river just north of Peekskill and took that main route 9A south to Croton. Once there, the commute to NYC is easy on the train and you end up in Grand Central.

No parkways for you in NY!! Your GPS should be set to "truck" to get you the correct routes. I grew up near there and know the area well. What route do you plan on using to get there?

I was thinking of the one mentioned, coming down from West Point. RPFAN, which way would you recommend? I don't want to attempt anything that requires me to be in a certain lane to get my clearance. Thanks.

I just came from Lancaster this morning and stopping in Cabelas in Hamburg, I used the route shown on mapquest except I got off at 55 on I287.
The route is fine until you cross the Tappen Zee Bridge, from there as others say you cannot use any of the Parkways, you need to get off at Tarrytown exit and take 9 north.
