If you have not had a chance to stay at a Corp of Engineers CG please give it try. You can use their web siteCorp of Engineers We bought a book with all their listings at Camping World. Their CG are well laid out with plenty of space between sites. Everyone we have stayed at has had water and 30 amp power with dump site. Rents are around $20 a night and they accept Golden age Pass and America the Beautiful that will save you 1/2. We use C of E CG every chance we get and have never been disappointed.
Happy Camping

I have never had the opportunity to stay at a COE campground. Not too many in NM. CoE Campgrounds in NM.
Abiquiu Lake -US Army Corps of Engineers campground, we have driven by but not stopped, they say it has excellent facilities surrounded by red sandstone cliffs and mesas of "O´Keefe Country." Campground Area
Echo Amphitheater - Natural rock formation is nearby with a campground as well. Close to Ghost Ranch & the Ghost Ranch Piedra Lumbre Education and Visitor Center, located on U.S. Highway 84 just one mile north of the main Ghost Ranch entrance, has exhibits and a gift shop. A very nice museum in "O´Keefe Country." Ghost Ranch also has camping.
Also Army Corps of Engineers---Cochiti Lake between Santa Fe & Albur'que.
BLM campgrounds are often very nice as well.
Valley of Fires Recreation Area & BLM Campground is an excellent campground. Fires rated
The Three Rivers Petroglyph Site & BLM Campground 3Rivers
Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area a BLM site with campgrounds is 30 miles north of Santa Fe (Santa Cruz). We have stayed there, a nice area. One campground overlooks the Lake, the other is down by it.

Agreed! We have stayed at several COE CGs on lakes in GA and all have been very nice. Some of their structures (bath houses, etc) are older but usually well kept and clean. The camp hosts are usually very friendly and helpful...even on hectic holiday weekends!
In the past eight years, we have stayed in one state park and 2 national parks. All the rest have been COEs at least once a month except Jan & Feb. Can't beat the price with my GAP.
However, a lot (most?) of the COE campgrounds in Ohio and Kentucky are actually state or county park campgrounds on land leased from the COE. I suspect that in many cases, the actual COE built campgrounds are nicer and less expensive. But the COE website doesn't differentiate between state and local campgrounds on COE lakes, and actual COE campgrounds.

Looking forward to staying at W P Franklin in FL for the first time this winter. Got a spot overlooking the docks where boaters using the canal can dock and use water and elec.
The real popular ones, you have to book exactly 6 mo. in advance at exactly 10:00am to be assured a spot of your choice.
The 1/2 price was an added bonus.

GA has beautiful COE campgrounds around Lake Lanier - Shoal Creek is rated 5/5 in Frommers. We stayed at Baldridge which has overall rating of 4/5 - but 5/5 in the things that are important to us. They shut down early though - end of Sept or mid Oct.
We have them in many places throughout TN. They're just awful places to go. We keep going to them multiple times a year just to try to help them out "money wise." People don't like them here. Most here, are just way to beautiful to truly enjoy like you do most parks. Many here are next to large waterways. I mean, all that water next to your sites? I just wouldn't recommend them...
