You can get permits for $40 for 2 weeks south of I10 or you can go N of I10 and you don't have to....we have spent the last 3 years there and have really liked it...sometimes dusty but a great place to watch people.....they have good places to dump and fill up with water that the line moves very quickly....most inexpensive place to winter.

The permit for the season to park in the LTVA's south of I-10 and on either side of US-95 is $180 (the season is from 9/15 through 4/15), or $40 for a 14-day period.
However, there are free BLM areas surrounding Quartzsite (not just north) where you can stay for up to 14-days before you are supposed to move at least 25 miles.
Here are the directions for getting to all the BLM land surrounding Quartzsite on which you can park...both free and the fee LTVAs.

Thanks folks for the info about quartzite camping. That is just what I need as I would like to try a 14 day or less period before going to Yuma. I like Nov and Dec in a campground for the holiday meals.

Contrary to some posts there is 14 day free parking south of Quartzite, as well as east, north and west. Then you can go north east toward Bouse and there is some more great places to camp. No need to pay for a long term parking permit if you don't want to.
