http://www.wbrz.com/news/wbr-deputies-investigating-trailer-theft/

I was watching the evening news and there was a segment on an elderly retired couple near Baton Rouge staying at a campground in their HR Class A when they were burglarized. The article linked above is very short, but the TV segment gave more information. The burglar broke in at night with the couple sleeping in the master bedroom. Apparently they were woken when something was knocked off of the counter and broke.

I've heard of RV's being stolen, or broken into while in storage, but this is the first time I've ever heard of a burglary while camping in a campground, with the residents inside. I wonder if it was a random thing, or a neighboring camper?

About 2 years ago, we were staying at campground in Ocala Fl, and in one night there was 8 rv's broken into and money and other valuables were stolen. We didn't get hit, but the camper next to us did. The difference between us and them, 1) we had a dog 2) we never leave our windows open or unlocked 3) and we never leave anything of value they can see through the window ie: purses, wallets, etc.

It is not the world it use to be, too many not wanting to work for what they want, or too many wanting money to buy drugs. Really sad. But in all the years we have been camping that is the only time it has happened. We got robbed once but was RV was in storage.

I have a dog but she doesn't go camping because she is too big and most campgrounds have rules about leaving dogs locked in the trailer.

I always lock my doors when I'm away from the trailer or going to bed. As a matter of fact my brother-in-law always complains when he tries to help himself to something in one of my storage compartments because the doors are locked.

It takes someone really desperate to enter another mans castle to steal something knowing someone is home. But that is todays world.

First home invasions, now RV invasions. What is society coming to?

This was really shocking to me. My TT stays unlocked while it's parked in my driveway, while I'm sleeping in it at the campground, and even when I take the golfcart down the road or across the park. I guess my theory for when it's parked at home in the driveway is that I'd rather a theif open the door and take what they want rather than BREAK open the door or window to take what they want. There's nothing of value in there anyway. But now I'm concerned for my family's safety while sleeping. I'm going to start locking all doors, windows, & compartments.

I always have my dogs with me and if anyone gets near the windows or doors I know it. I never leave my windows open just keep the air on , its safer that way. Dont leave things outside for them to steel either . Just good that they did not catch them in the RV could have been a very bad out come. It was good no one got hurt.

The campground I stay at in Yuma knows everyone there and when a stranger comes in they want to know what they are doing there.

I must live under a rock. From the sounds of things, it appears that crime is something new. I must have totally missed out on the crime-free society. I remember having a bunch of car stereos stolen from me in the 70's. Maybe it was the 60's and before that our society was so pure.

Nope, couldn't have been the 60's. I was 6 when we went camping in the 60's, stayed in a canvas tent. My dad's Coleman cooler was stolen with his beer. He was not happy.

Must have been the 50's.

Must be where ever you are from. Down here in the deep south, it used to be you steal something, you get shot. And the sheriffs would turn a blind eye. With all this "P.C." stuff, times are changing. The criminal has more rights than the property owner.
