As stated, not much around there. I would keep going to camp towards Cortez or Mesa Verde as suggested. As for the location itself, this gets old and a little flinty. The place is a roadside attraction. It's a 1/2 hour to hour stop with a unique attribute. Sure, modern gear puts the actual location 1800 feet away, but so what. It's on Native American soil and they use it as a money maker. Again, so what? We had fun, it was a fine break from driving, and the pictures we took of the kids in 4 different states is a fun momento for us. We also bought a few things, and do not regret one cent spent there. If you didn't like it, that's fine too. It's vacation for Pete sakes. To me it comes down to expectations...if you are expecting Mt Rushmore or the Grand Canyon, you'll be greatly disappointed. If you need a place to take a break, with the unique distinction of being generally regarded as the 4 corners of 4 states, enjoy your break.

Oh, yes! And try one with mutton if they've got it. Absolutely scrumptious!

We were there in sept. of 2007 and I felt a little uneasy there. There were probably about 20 people there and very far out in no man lands. The booths only had like 3 opened. Took our pics in the circle and then left. We were not impressed at all!!!!! We went on to Mesa Verde and camped at a really nice campground across the road from the park. Do Not miss Mesa Verde Nat'l Park,it is very interesting .

I agree the Four Corners Mon. was a waste of time and money. I really enjoyed Canyon DeChelly - good campground (free) and wonderful views. Hike down to White House ruins. Enjoyed DeChelly more than Mesa Verde, but it nice too.

Many many years ago {okay eons}, another young co-worker brought her "summer vacation pictures to share". Oddly enough the ONE that always stuck with me, showed her running around the FOUR CORNERS MONUMENT -- At that time I had hardly ever been out of my own state ... let alone stood in four states all at once!!!!

Well after all these years, I FINALLY passed through that area a few weeks ago on the many trips that the DearHubby & I have been fortunate enough to travel. The DH, trying to beat an afternoon thunderstorm on the way to the CG in Durango, zipped right by the turn before realizing he'd passed it, and only begrudingly found a place to turn around and go back.

It cost $3 per adult. And yes, it had all the usual "Typical Touristy Trappings" {which actually one can find virtually anywhere in the world}. And if ALL you want on the road of life is the "awe inspiring sightseeing and mind boggling history" then by all means, save your money.

As for myself, that long ago call of the open road was NOT a disappointment. I have my own picture of "ME sitting and JOGGING around the Four Corners Monument". I've had the opportunity to visit NM, AZ, CO, and Utah and almost every state of the Union plus most of the rest of the world. Every place is different and every place has its own appeal -- and remember not everyone has to enjoy the exact same adventures & experiences. {Consider those who seek out the biggest ball of twine, etc LOL} JUST GET OUT THERE AND GO....

AND along with those tacos be sure not to miss the INDIAN FRY BREAD

Was there in 2004 and I think it was $3 to get in. Yes, it was fun to have each of us in a different state but yet within arms reach. Most of the concessions/trinkets were overpriced. What interested me was the run-down houses we saw on the Navajo reservation on the way in and out, contrasted with the REALLY nice (and expensive) cars the concessionaires had parked behind their stands. Other than that, nothing there and really no other reason to go there.

After you visit Four Corners, be sure to visit the official Center of the World, in Felicity, California, 8 miles west of Yuma. http://www.felicity.us/center.html
Nope, I haven't stopped there yet.

When we went there in 1976 it was free, and almost worth the entrance fee! Just kidding, I'm glad we went there just so we can check it off the list, and even more glad it didn't cost anything. Have fun
