LMAO, this forum cannot be supported by advertising? Sounds like someone is not doing their job. I am a member of a fishing forum with a much smaller audience and ads from local businesses as well as ones like you see here cover costs. I can also add in the Subaru Forum that charges no dues as well as the same with a Titan forum. They do offer buy in's to get extra privledges, but most of the content is free to view and post on. Sounds like the people in charge of running this forum, not the mods!!!!, need a new job. It should at the least pay for itself.
The amount of equipment and band width required to support this forum is probably hundreds of times what your fishing forum is. I wouldn't be surprised if the forums you mention are all run off of free services.

You would be incorrect Sir about free services.
In fact the fishing forum has enabled it's owner to quit his full time job. Members pay a $15.00 annual fee, but kids in school, seniors and veterans are free. This all with 11,000 members aprroximately. No where near the ad exposure of this site as it is pretty much exclusive to CT and has far fewer viewers.
The Subaru Forum has added servers twice and is still a no charge venture run by an idividual with support costs covered by advertising monies.
They are both run on current bulletin board formats as well.
If CW does file bankruptcy it won't be my fault, at least according to my wife. She says I spend more money there on the MH, then I spend on her. I think she's jealous.

At last count (over a year ago) membership on this forum exceeded 200,000 members... That's a good deal more than 11,000 members...
Assuming the gentleman who runs the fishing forum owns and operates all the equipment himself, I can why he could quit his job with $165,000 income from the forum contributions... However, I know for a fact that these forums require several full time people for site maintenance and programming/software changes and upgrades and the revenue stream from the advertisers just isn't enough to cover those costs...
Personally, I really enjoy the forums and contribute frequently as a poster in addition to my Moderating duties and I for one would be very sad to see the forum disappear... Please note that I am a GS member as well and also do some shopping at Camping World when the need arises Just trying to do my part

I've gained a lot of knowledge from this forum in the 5+ years I've been visiting it & agree with Jack_Pine that a reasonable annual fee would a good personal investment to see that it continues to operate.

I have no ties with CW or AGI… weather you like AGI or not makes no difference to me… but as a company they have done more to advance camping and the lifestyle than any other…
While I am sure many here would take great delight in their demise, if it happens it will be bad for the RV industry as a whole, bad for RVers and it will be bad for those of us that have decided this forum is the very best place for RV related information, and it is…
Many don’t realize that cost of running this forum doesn’t run lineal with its growth… counting on outside resources to pay for the service is difficult even in good economic conditions, and exceedingly difficult in a bad economy with a for profit company…
I do support their efforts to get through this and wish them well…

Keep in mind this forum costs several thousand dollars a month to keep operating and the ad stream revenue does not come close to covering the cost. Thus, the company is trying to find additional ways to generate revenue during these difficult times.
You may want to point out that ad blocking software hurts the ad revenue. Since the site is free, members could at least let the adds run to collect the revenue.
This is something that I have wondered about, just letting the adds run without actually clicking on them, ever, generates revenue? Or is revenue only generated when an add is actually clicked on.
