When we retired and hit the road in 2006, we thought that we might tour the country. However, when we got to the Asheville, NC area, we found lots of Blue Grass music, plenty of vegetarian markets and restaurants, and lots of hiking trails in the mountains. We liked the area so much that now we stay here in the summer months. Works for us.

We like your home area of S.D. only been there two times, but there is so much to see.

I'm on board with the O.P. I cannot figure out why people go to the same/same all the time. But..many lead their whole life that way...same shopping store, same restaurant..same/same. I guess it's usually a comfort thing. Me...I am much happier checking out someplace new.

We do both, this year we traveled to Pensacola from ct in the spring then took a trip closer to home each month of the summer and we just returned from a trip to myrtle beach and back to ct. We enjoy the longer trips but we are both still working so we have to come home sooner or later. We have found three or four campgrounds that we really enjoy at different times of the year that are closer to home like the beach in the summer, mountains in the fall and so on. I think it has been said here that everyone has a different idea. I love to be on tne road but that has to wait a few more years.

We are still in the workforce. Normally we will take 2 weeks of vacation per year. One of those is usually to someplace new. The other week will be to somewhere we have been before. This will give us a chance to actually relax since we have seen the sites and don't feel we have to rush to see everything. We also go to the same local camping areas for our weekends. Might seem boring but is just much more relaxing...

Guess I'm guilty. I keep going to the Florida Keys. It's only a 5 day drive.

I couldn't think or a more beautiful place to spend an extended stay over and over again...

DW and I do both. We usually try to find someplace new but there are times when we just want to get into the woods and will go locally. We really need to fit a trip in to go to the Corning Glass Museum in NY soon

Ours is grandkids in Montana. Go there every couple years trying to go diferent routes to and fro. Getting hard to do after 15 years. 4,000 mile and 2 weeks round trip for us at minimun. Two years ago we also went to Archs and Canyonlands nat. Parks spending three weeks and 5,000 miles. Life is good.

Guess if we were all the same, it would be a pretty boring world. The DW and I both still work and are in our late 50's. We have a couple of nice campgrounds that we frequent fairly often due to their proximity, yet still "getting away from it all". One is in Sevierville TN, the other is at Lake Keowee in SC...VERY NICE campgrounds with everything you need and TONS of places to go visit, fishing, swimming, hiking, riding bicycles, etc....We also go to new places on longer stay's, but sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, we KNOW these campgrounds and what sites to reserve to make a stay a GOOD one. When we retire, we'll do the traveling thing, but for now this suits our needs just fine and we're very happy with it.

NC Hauler, your answer was the one I expected from most who replied to this.
