I am looking at a truck to purchase. All I have is that it is a 2008 Chevy K1500 Silverado, 4WD Crew Cab, 5.3L/323 CID, LT W/2LT. I have the VIN number and would like to look it up. I thought that someone had directed me to a website that gave more details about the truck such as motor size, size of the rear end, etc. I am not really interested in the history by searching the VIN number.

On a GM you need the RPO codes to find out all that info.
To find the tag and the codes, go here.

The only info the VIN will give you is Series (1/2 ton, 3/4 ton etc) Model (Regular, extended or Crew Cab), box length, 2WD vs 4WD, engine series and the Plant code where it was built.
All other info needs the RPO (Option) codes off the Service Parts label in the glove-box.

There used to be a guy over on dieselplace.com that would do VIN checks and build sheets for you. Thats where I got mine from. Ususlly takes a couple of days for him to get back to you.

He can do that with just the VIN number? Also, will he do it even if it is not a diesel?
The truck was locked when I looked at it, so I could not look at the codes inside the glove box or inside the door. I was only able to get the VIN number.
You can also go to Chevy.com and find a vehicle. Then go the the dealer and look at his invintory and find the vehicle by vin#. At leat all the dealers in my area keep things very up to date on the chevy site.
