Cyberfalcon,
Unless your getting a lot of road spray into the wheel well area where the tube has been extended to, then I would check the complete system for air leaks due to poor connection(s).

Over the years Ford has had 3 different "fixes" for the water ingestion problem. We have the latest version on our coach and it's done very well. I used to have to replace the air filter at least every 5,000 miles or less due to the water. Since installing the latest snorkel tube the filters last up to 25,000 miles (depending on the types of roads you drive on). The last 2 actually had to be replaced due to the dirt they filtered (going through Alaska and Canada).

Be aware the newest design is intended to raise the air intake above the open grille. On our coach the intake is raised to about 3" above the grille opening. Some coaches have such a tall grille that the top of the tube is still open to rain. The nice thing about it is that there's a drain at the bottom should any water get into the intake tube. To bad you didn't get the fix sooner. We did ours when it first came out a few years ago. The cost at that time was $12.00. Since it was less than the cost of an air filter it was well worth the money.

Here's a link to some pictures of an installation:

I extended the intake tube sideways so yeah, I may be picking up road spray, I'll have to check that out. Perhaps I should go straight up instead.

In any event, the rig isn't moving until I can find a shop to fix the broken exhaust, the noise is just incredible.

If you don't like the look, or are uncomfortable with the redesign of the Ford change to address this problem, you might consider checking with Banks on their air induction change.

The first owner of our 99 F53, added the full Banks package. From intake to headers to exhaust, and the transcommand too. It is the only experience I have with the air cleaner. Basically a cone K&N in a new intake box, that breathes very well.

When I started reading this board, and first heard of the water induction problem, I asked the 1st owner (lives down the street) if he had any problems with the Banks modification. He said never been an issue, and he'd driven in rain so thick that he'd send the wife out in front of him with a large table umbrella, so he could see some down the road. (Now, he said this deadpan straight - but I doubt he would risk a good umbrella in such a method....

I've been pleased with this setup, and I too have had no water problems, and been in a few squalls in the last three years.

I'd call ford first, and ask for the 'fix parts' to see if that takes care of you. Just wanted to also suggest the Banks system, as it too works well.

Best of luck,
Smitty

I installed the latest Ford fix for the water ingestion problem. But found after installing it some water was still getting in. The top of the new tube came at the same level as the crack in the upper hood. I installed a piece of 12" long stick on foam tape about an inch thick in the area in front of the tube and to date have not had any more problems with water.

I am aware of the fix guys, but thanks for providing links. What I was not aware is that the new tube apparently works by getting the air inlet above the grill and hood cracks.

The link provided by Don was one I saw a year ago but never went back to review it. Users are reporting good results on that link which I was not aware.

So that leaves me with finding a shop to fix the exhaust. Can anyone in the Cincinnati area recomend one?

Call South West RV in Ross. They have been excellent for me. Ask for Scott or Brian. If they can't do it (doubtful) they'll know where to go to get it done. Good luck.

I just checked at Ford dealer. 81.95 +tax for the tube.
