SAMSUNG LCD TV's Series LNS & LNT have a flaw in their Power Boards they used capacitors manufactured by a Chinese firm that copied another company design but used inferior materials. The caps can not handle the heat and start to bulge at the top (which is normal design when a cap starts to fail).

I replaced the power supply board parts CS806, CM811, 812 & 817, all 1000 uf 10v capacitors. my cost was less than $ 7.00 and about 2 hours of time to remove the TV from the entertainment center with a wall mount, remove the back panel, remove the Power board, de-solder the 4 bad caps, re-solder new caps then put it all back together.

A Electronics / TV repair shop gets $ 400 - 500.00 to replace the power borad (if you bring the TV to them) a new powerboard (with the old style caps) cost around $ 150.00 - 200.00 off the internet.

The problems starts between 2,500 - 3,000 hours of use and first signs is that the TV will take longer to turn on after you press the power on button (Remote OR TV Panel). You will start seeing the red light flash 4 times several times (when it gets worse 20 to 30 times of 4 sets of flashes) this is a sign that it's about to not turn on at all.

To enter the service menu to check the number of hours do the following:

*with the TV powered ON and using the remote:
1) Press the power button
2) Press the MUTE button
3) Press #1
4) Press #8
5) Press #2
6) Press Power Button

You will now have the service menu screen displayed, then scroll down to "option Byte" press the ENTER button and another screen displays, the "Panel Display Time" will tell you how many hours you have on your TV. When a repair is done it will set the Panel Hours back to "0".

to exit the service menu screen, just turn the TV power button off.

Samsung will not confess up to the major problem but it is well documented on the internet by owners & repair techs.

Be careful. Caps can store extremely high voltage. Some LCD backlights operate at 6/700 volts.

I don't know if the LCD you have (LN32 Generation 5 LCD) has the same flaw as the LN-S & LN-T Series (Gen 2 & 3).

A quick search for entering the service menu appears the same

How to Access Service Mode
Using the Customer Remote
Turn the power off and set to stand-by mode
Press the remote buttons in this order; POWER OFF-MUTE-1-8-2-POWER ON to turn the set on.
The set turns on and enters service mode. This may take approximately 20 seconds.
Press the Power button to exit and store data in memory.
- If you fail to enter service mode, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.

* How to enter the hidden factory mode.
a. into the factory mode
b. key input : 0 + 2 + 1 + 4 + exit
c. select option byte menu -> in menu -> out menu
(... hidden menu appear...)
** hidden menu : Video/Scaler, Enhancement, SOUND, Dynamic Contrast, LNA+

ONE WORD OF CAUTION....when in the service menu don't play around with the video audio settings unless you know what your doing as you will get everything out of whack. Doing a RESET will return it all back to factory setting wiping out all of your custom settings.

Thanks Kamphiker,
My son's TV is sitting in the garage with just such a PS problem. He even had an extended warranty from Meijer where it was purchased on a brand new Meijer credit card on Thanksgiving. He lost the receipt and Meijer says that they have no way to look it up. What a crock but that's another story for another time. (So it sits in my garage until the mystery warranty expires, just in case he finds it.)
Anyway, I looked at the power supply board but none of the components look bad physically but my multimeter shows no output.
Q1) Is it typically the came caps that fail on all of these boards?
Q2) Is there an easy way to check these components?
Q3) Do you have a good source for the caps?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I had checked other forums but I should have known that RV.net is the source of all knowledge.

Yes,

I forget that not everyone has done this type of work before.

I unplugged overnight (not turn off but pulled the power cord) before I opened up the LCD and then I made sure they were discharged before proceeding with removing.

Thanks for the reply. My mistake, it's actually a Sylvania 6842PFM with a FUNAI power supply. I remember seeing some posts on it and as I recall the caps were kind of oddball and not redily available. Some people were able to combine caps to get the proper value but as I said I don't see any obviously bad components. The problem sounded familiar and I got too excited. The only good news is that in a couple months, I can pitch it so I can get to the snowblower behind it.....if that's good news.

Similar to the capacitor problem Mitsubishi had with one of their models.
The service tech said Mit. bought bunch of bad caps and after having our chassis factory rebuilt three times - they shipped us a new later model 65" LCD.
