We use the TT for destination camping-when we're going to be at one place for several days. Use the TC for trips where we just travel-don't stay at one place more than a day or two. Gary
I HAD two. Started out years ago with a TT and moved to fifth wheels the past few years.
In '04 I got the Lance exclusively for my Alaska trip and intended to sell it when I got back. No way! What a wonderful way to travel and sightsee. So I kept the TC just for that purpose.
For the past 6 winters I have used the SunnyBrook fiver for snowbirding. But since we now own a park model I no longer needed it for that purpose.
Which one to keep and which one to sell? Really wasn't that difficult of a decision. Sold the fiver in July.
We had 5 at one time for years (a Lance Legend 990 Camper, a Lance 915 Camper, a Carriage 3 axle 36ft 5'er, a Carriage Carrilite 29 ft 5'er, and our 36' Allegro tall basement Motorhome). As of this writing, we only have 3 RV's, the 990 Lance, the 915 Lance, and the 29' Carrilite 5'er. Maybe not 3 for long though since we're actively looking for another 5'er to replace the 36' Carriage which was totaled by a falling tree.
Good thing we have a large piece of terra firma (land) our main home is on because it kind of looks like a storage lot out back with all our RV's, boats, other trailers etc, plus my large finished pole building (DW calls it my "Toy Barn") behind the home. Unfortuneatly, there's no room left in it for the RV's with all my hobby items and workshop/storage.
Life is so sweet and then you croak, so ya gotta do it now!!!

Lance 990 Legend Camper 11' 4" with my 2' X 7' rear porch with box
29 ft Carri-lite 5th wheel - specially built
36 ft Carriage 5'er (took a tree falling)
Lance 915 Camper (just sold)
Own both. toyhauler have since 2002 winter time we do the sand dune thing and in the summer we usually go boating but couldnt take toyhauler and boat together and with family it was hard to tent camp in 100 degree temps.
This past april i sold my streetbike and bought a lance camper for my truck so i can tow boat behind it and go to the river and most places we stay have full hook ups.Works well and we like it but still going to keep the trailer for glamis. We stay for a week at times in the desert and it works good for that due to size and holding tanks.
Different rigs, different purposes. Sometimes it's just me, take the little trailer. Sometimes the family, take the big trailer. Sometimes I'm showing livestock, take the camper and pull a livestock trailer. I "camp" about 150 nights a year. Different rigs, one truck though, biggest 1 ton dually crew cab GMC makes. Always have enough truck!
As my Signature shows we have 2, 5ver and TC. Use the 5ver for our 4 month trip down south in the winter. Also about a month in the fall to tour Penna and the Hershey car show (leave in 2 days). The truck Camper was bought 3 years ago for a 10 week trip to Alaska and we used it to do volunteer reconstruction in Waveland, Miss. after Katrina. We now find we use it a lot in the summer for short trips and take 2-3 grandsons with us also to travel to my Navy ship reunion every summer. Ron Day
We got the 5th wheel first and have had some great times in it. Then I retired (wife still works--a big disadvantage to marrying a younger woman ) and began to do more solo trips. My style of camping is heading to the outback, so a truck camper was the obvious choice. Plus, it was a little embarrassing to be just a lone dude traveling in the expansive luxury of a fifth wheel.

I too have a IGYW (Income generating younger wife). I have a permanent site about 30 miles away on a lake which is really nice, but it kind of ties me down. It sure is convenient though, just drive 30 minutes pull the awning down, put the boat in the water. But I miss the traveling to the different places I use to camp at. Now that I have this permanent site it seems a hassle to go there, break camp, go somewhere else and then bring it back.
Gee I can hear my dad (passed on) saying to me when I was a kid "You should have a problem....".
truck camper is when i go alone
travel trailer is for when i have other people with me.
also when going close to home i take the trailer = more room, less steps
like the trailer because of the space, plus have space in the pickup bed for firewood, bike, generator,
but i just got the truck camper, (august )like the easy mobility of traveling with it.
so local camping trailer under 65 miles away
or a trip over 65 miles it will be the truck camper
just rambling away.
