I don't know about others, but I'll tell you why it bothers me - because I'm NOT a member of the club. I was a member years ago. Everybody says to go to the drop down choice. It's not there. Then they say to go to your "active good sam account and do something to synchronize the email address to the address here. I have no "active account with GS. And I have had only one email address for many years. I am being labeled a GS member and I'm not one. Other non-members here have said the same thing. Everyone should have the choice to get rid of it, not just the "active" GS members.
GS does not seem to get it. They have a terrible security policy that apparently allows them to sell member information to other organizations. They also make members go through extraordinary measures just to remove a bogus little logo from a forum. Add these things to all of the junk mail they send out and they sure don't practice being good sams.
This has certainly become a hot topic - with some. It's almost an obsession, like a battle of wills. I wonder if the moderator could tell us what percent of the total membership objects? It must not be significant or surely GS would reverse the policy. It's a sponsored forum and GS added the log because? because they could!
It's almost like the Walmart threads - much ado, unrelated to the forum purpose, involving a third party who's not even active on the forum.
"My privacy has been violated! I'll keep posting messages so I can violate myself over and over and wallow in the injustice of it all!"
Please GS, put some of us out of our misery...
Don't mess with MY logo though; personally I've grown fond of the little guy!
Have you tried clearing your cache? Might be picking it up from before you canceled it. If that doesn't work maybe you could just burn a hole in your computer screen. Bad enough to get a mailbox full of junk sent to your house every day or so (just my opinion).

Just testing to see if I'm infected with the nasty little bugger too.

EDIT: Before posting, I looked and couldn't find any option to get rid of, opt out or even opt in the new advertising scam. I did find a box with the logo as my "#1 Friend". I deleted "him" as #1 then had to delete him again as a friend at all. Now "he" and the American flag (?) are in a new box marked "badges". I can't empty or remove that box.
Of course I may not have had a problem because the email address GS has is from an out of business ISP! Come to think of it, the GS spam stopped about the same time that I had to change ISPs!

All right, perspective.
- Haven't you heard warnings to watch the information about you that you put on social networking sites?
- Haven't you heard of identity theft?
- And Twitter too. This past weekend, a chef, one who hosts a tv cooking show on television, had a reviewer refuse to review his latest book because of what he was saying "on his twitter site". He had no twitter site. What he found was that someone had taken his photo and his name and a few other bits of personal information and pretending to be him for the past 6 months.
There, that's privacy. It can invade homes real world homes, real world bank accounts. Keep your information to yourself to be safe.

Makes no matter which computer, as once you log in, AffinityGroup (AG) and
the portal from which you log in drops a cookie onto that computer.
You gave it permission once you logged in and that permission is
based on your original sign up to which ever portal you used.
That cookie has ID info from AffinityGroup, the portal (rv.net is the
one I'm viewing this thread through) and that then syncs up with the
GS info on their servers.
Not all of the info is in each cookie, but enough to tell the AG
server which files & folders to pull up that has your ID/info in them
Ditto the info sent back to GS, which then has GS's servers pull up
your file/folders that contain your ID info. Changes it to log your
log in (assume TOD, which portal, etc)
Another assumption is that each login isn't reported/sync'd, but batched
I'm wondering how many others are involved reading folks saying they
don't have a GS account, to having a different email and/or ID between
GS and AG/RV.net.
My guess is that since you have to go through a portal to get to AG,
that portal might have another association along with AG having
other associations (how many portals feed into AG?). Multiplex all
of those portals factored by GS, and then see how large just that
matrix of info is.
If, say one of the OEMs or even all of them, then have a deal with
GS and/or AG/RV.net/Woodalls/Campingworld/etc, then your GS logo
comes along via that route...just a guess on a scenario. That info
is from your warranty registration of your TV or even your trailer
