We all ways have a problem coming up with our first dinner. As we are mostly weekend campers, when we get to the CG friday night there is not that much daylight left...maybe an hour at the most...we love our charcole grill, and is our preferred mode of cooking...any suggestions...we like to leave the "good stuff" for the next night..steaks etc...What would be good and quick and grillable for the first night ? We are out of ideas, thnks for your time and help...wolfie

That first night, I'm too lazy to fire up the gas grill... never mind charcoal. If I didn't have a pot roast in the slow cooker that I can grab and go, it's KFC for me.

If you have a crockpot and a inverter you could have a stew coking while your on the road. We do this often and our we use our lunchbox cooker for a meatlofe. By the time a get hooked up supper is ready.

Light up the BBQ and grill those burgers. We always do burgers on the first night.....quick and easy.. Patties are premade at home so very little fuss to organize supper.

We bring chili. If you are too tired to cook just heat it up or make chili dogs or taco salads.

If we're going to be arriving late afternoon/early evening, we either cook Fri night's meal ahead of time and just reheat or bring something frozen that is microwavable. For a while, we were hooked on the individual microwaveable pizzas. BBQ sandwiches from local BBQ joint or grocery deli is pretty good. Never tried the croc pot while traveling but that sounds like a good deal, too.

This is what we do, and / or make beef stew at home and bring it for the first night.
Also we sometimes do burgers. We have a griddle type gas grill, easy to setup and get cooking.

A friend used to throw some canned beans (baked type), some canned peas, and some cut up hot dogs in a pan, heat the whole mess and serve it. My wife sometimes fixes fried sliced Spam on bread with canned baked beans over it.
