I hijacked a post and I'm sorry that I did that. So now I'll post a new post on the subject. For all you fulltimers, how long does someone need to be out on the road before you consider them a fulltimer? We were only out 18 months before we found the "prefect spot" for us. We were there 3 yrs before we needed to return "home" due to my mom's health. There are no campgrounds in this area that are even worth a grain of salt so we bought a house. So that's our story in short version. Since some fulltimers feel 3 yrs is not long enough (cooped up in small RV, even though they spent 3 yrs on the road, which indicates to me they enjoyed the fulltime lifestyle for 3 yrs, just were ready for something different) how long does someone have to enjoy the fulltime lifestyle before you hard core fulltimers allow them to be in your "circle?"
There is no circle. Nor any accepted definition of fulltimer.
Gotta tell you that I've read many discussions on this same topic, often at the escapees web site. Always comes out to "Do what you want and don't worry about what others think of you."
And so I do. And so I don't.

If someone's home is their rig, I'd think they were FTers immediately. Just like if I rented an apartment, I'd immediately be a 'renter' or if I bought a stix & brix primary residence I'd immediately be a 'homeowner.'
It's really a lifestyle, IMO, and if you're living it, you're it.
keepmotoring... What I think you'll find here is a vast number of opinions on the matter and in reality it as mentioned already all boils down to what YOU want to do and call it There are NO set rules, only those set by you for you.
Huh? Who cares? You've been on this forum long enough to not get worked up over some old geezers rant haven't you? Take a deep breath - I consider myself full-time but I ain't got no medal yet either.
Heck, I don't even get a Good Sam logo even though I paid the dues. (I know the emails gotta match but I'm paranoid enough I don't want those records kept).

"Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform."
Mark Twain
Fulltime, to me, is a change of attitude towards life in general, and an acceptance of those changes.
Anyone , with assests, can purchase an rv and sell their house, apt etc, and live in that rv. Accepting the responsibilities, duties, and the mental appitude , is to me what makes a person a fulltimer.
Living the life, doing those daily things that make this lifestyle so much fun and returns so great, are the things that make a person a fulltimer.
There are people who live in rvs that NEVER move, yet they have the attitude and the desire to live in an rv and face the challanges of the world doing so. That is surely fulltime to me.
How long? When you accept the change and face the challanges, THEN you have become a fulltimer.
My opinion is mine and is trademarked as so.
But to admit that you are going to live in an rv for a certain length of time then settle down, to me you have not accepted those challanges.
I agree there are no "rules" on this and I'm not really sure why it would matter.
We eased into what we do, at first just taking long trips while owning a house - I did not consider that Full Time, more just "extended time". Then we decided to sell the house and move into the RV, which was "full time" as far as I was concerned - we had no house. However that only lasted a few months (which was the plan) and we ended up with a house again. At that point we settled into spending Summer in the house and Winter in the RV - I guess that makes us more "snowbird" than full time.
But we do 4 to 6 months at a stretch in the RV and I consider that living there "full time", not just a vacation/trip. The long term vision is to renovate the house and sell it, then spend at least a year in the RV. We will see. Personally I like the changes and am looking forward to getting AWAY from the home renovation and back into the RV next week. Full time, snow bird, extended trip whatever...
