I was going to ask the same question!!!! No Linux fo me

I found this http://ask.metafilter.com/40319/Can-I-use-an-iPod-without-the-iTunes-software alot of different ideas there.

I heard about foola, also something about enabling disk mode?

Why do you hate iTunes? It couldn't be simpler to use.

There are other options but none that I've seen that work better than iTunes. I don't know how the process of getting music from mp3 files to the iPod could really get any easier than simply importing the music (drag and drop) into iTunes and syncing the iPod??????

I have used Media Monkey. I used it exclusively with iPods but it doesn't work very well with iPhones (yet).

iTunes does ok for moving music to iPods but it is very unfriendly toward burning CD's. If you use the default ripping format (AAC), iTunes won't convert it on the fly to MP3 if you want to make a MP# CD for your car player. Media Monkey will convert any format to any format on the fly when you want to burn a CD and it uses folder/sub folder to display CD's, lists by artist and album simultaneousy, etc.

Its free for the stripped version. I bought the lifetime with lifetime updates, faster burns and rips.

Not sure about the PC version, but the Mac version of iTunes will make you an MP3 disc by clicking the button. Super simple.

The PC version will make you a MP3 CD IF you ripped the songs in MP3 format. iTunes default rips songs in AAC (MP4), which is a superior format BUT hardly anything plays it. iTunes will convert all your AAC tunes to MP# but now you have two copies of every sone; one AAC and one MP3.

Because I can,t stand its proprietary nature. It forces you to use its media player. It uses to much memory and...I just do not like it.

You have to jailbreak your ipod touch or your iphone.

Google "jailbreak ipod".
