I am starting to average across multiple fill-ups. Generally I can say the mpg is above 10.5 but will probably keep a running log to track it better.
That is the ONLY way to do it correctly, one tank at a time is NOT accurate, as you found out!

I love it when people post that they got 9.999 mpg!! There is NO way to compute mileage that close using an odometer reading and filling at a normal pump. Just too many variables in the mix. Odometers are not totally accurate, the pumps probably are but you don't fill to the same point as someone noted earlier.

Average over 30,000 miles is better than 1,000 but, since the generator (on our DP anyway) draws from the fuel tank all I can do is estimate the gen fuel usage by the hour meter. But do I use .4 gph (half load) or .8gph (full load)? That alone makes 1/10's of a mpg difference.

My only comment is "check the hitch rating before purchase". Good Luck

My granddaddy had a team of mules. One was a lot bigger than the other. I suggested that the bigger one did all the pulling.

He responded by telling me that if he feed them the same amount they always did about the same amount of work. However if he feed the bigger one more, then the bigger one could pull the smaller one out of his tracks.

He told me if you have a small job to do a small or big mule will work fine. And you don’t need to feed the bigger one any more than the small one to do the same job. But if you have a big job to do you want a big mule and you need to feed it all it will eat to get the performance out of it that you want.

Moral of this story is, diesel engines are a lot like mules!

We average 8 hours of fun at 65 MPH. As for the MPG, it is what it is.

Does anyone know if the new ULSD have any adverse effects on the older diesel engines? There is some talk about the pumps not getting enough lubrication. We are planning on getting a diesel for our replacement RV and I know very little about diesels. Thanks Ronnie

Seals on lift pumps have been a problem on some older Cummins engines when switching to ULSD. Cummins says it is just a few percent of the engines and it is due to additives in LSD that are missing in ULSD. The seals shrink and leak. Cummins switched gasket material at some point a few years ago that stopped the problem. Call them at 1 888 769 3778 and they should be able to answer more completely. I recall that they used nitrile or failed to use nitrile, can't remember. CAT was immune to the problem. There were a few posts about failed gaskets about a year ago and now nothing. My 2000 Cummins ISB seems to have escaped.

I don't see any difference on our 37 years old Detroit, nor on our 12-years old Mercedes.
I did have to change set of orings on fuel system in Mercedes, but this is well know issue at 10 years mark and I DON'T blame it on ULSD like the other do
