I won't state a company because I'm in management for one of the major players, but I will tell you GMAC just got downgraded from an A to a B rated company (by AM Best). In the insurance world, that is huge. As a matter of fact, if you have GMAC as your insurance company, but you are financed with another company besides GMAC finance, they may no longer accept GMAC insurance since they are B.

I have seen a few major companies that went from A rated to insolvent in no time, and GMAC could be one of those in the future. Remember, the government has a 35.4% share in GMAC...and we all know how well the government does at running a business.

I always recommend buying your insurance from a financially strong company (A rated or better) that has local claim reps. You do get what you pay for.

Progressive doubled my annual premiem after I had a claim for messing up some paint and wiping out three bin doors. I called the Miller Insurance agency, got their number from an FMCA magazine, and have been very happy with my new and less costly insurance.

I use Gilbert RV Insurance in Orlando and is a great company to work with. You can get a quote on their website. I had the same experience with Progressive as most have, they doubled my rates in five year time frame. I needed the rv total replacement coverage instead of the automotive actual cash value type policies. The insurance company is Assurant that Gilbert hooked us up with.

DWs car, (liability only), and my 2008 2500 Ram with Liberty Mutual. Right after I bought my truck, I went to a drive thru car wash and the right mis-adjusted arm "ate" my right door to the tune of $1485.00 Insurance paid for the door, I paid the deductable and my rates haven't gone up.

I had GMAC (Good Sam).
Had a single vehicle accident, damage to the trailer only, insurance paid
$2600,raised my rates $866 per year for 3 years. They would have gotten their money back in 3 years.I would have been better off to pay for the damage out of pocket.
Changed to Progressive, will only put in a claim if I can not cover it myself.
Lets face it they are not going to loose money if they can help it,that is just business.
