Assets you can keep in bankruptcy, by Canadian province
Some provinces specifically exempt pets from seizures while others do not; legally, pets are property.

It's very sad that the family cannot have their dog back after going through all that. One of my rescue Collies came from a family that had lost there home. I know they loved him because they called the rescue to ask how he was doing.
