I have a Dodge 3500 SRW and have considered doing a conversion to DRW and was just wondering if any of you have done this conversion on your tow vehicle ? I have found some conversion kits that include everything needed excepy tires and paint of the fenders for about $2000. Any replies, thought`s, suggestions etc. on this would be very welcome. Thanks !

I am curious as to why?
I have the SRW with about 120,000 miles on it. I have towed our 15,000 lb 5'er about 50,000 of those miles without any problems.
Tows great!

What parts are you getting for $2k?
My F350 DRW has differant springs, axle housings, all wheels, brakes and fenders from the SRW version.

Might be easier & cheaper to try finding the parts at a salvage yard (including the bed).

with spacers you can slap another pair of tires on the back of your truck, but the bearings on the axle are going to be way offset from the new tire centerline. If you want the dually, get a scrapyard / new axle. then the bearings will be in the correct place, and not wear wrong. Can it be done with spacers, yes, but you will be way out of spec for the bearings. The outer edge will be supporting almost all the weight, the inner half (or more) will be loaded on the top, not the bottom, as you are cantilevered out past then end of the axle.

I don't know about the Dodge, but on your Ford, if you dig a little deeper, you'll find that the driveshaft is a bit heavier duty too.

There's a reason we pay more for a dually and it's not just wheels, tires and fenders.

What about someone who does not want or need the added capacity, just wants stability and safety if a tire blows on the TV? I have seen those issues talked about in why a person would want a dually.

I would just trade it in before considering that project.
