I developed a fuel line problems in my Holiday Rambler 454 some years ago. After having various mechanics attempt to diagnosis a problem, a truck tech in Victorville traced the line to a 3rd fuel filter near the propane tank, hidden by road dirt. One filter on the carb, one near the engine, and this one rear near the fuel tank. Replacing this clogged filter solved my problem. I then had that filter changed with each service.
Hope your solution is that simple, though at the time it was aggravatingly perplexing.

I have the same problem. When we took off on our fall trip in Sep. we had a problem going over high steep hills. We were going over Lolo Pass in Idaho when it just wouldn't run any longer. If we let it sit and ran the back tank we could get it started and go about 50 feet and it would stall again. Spent night on pass, got towed to Missoula, got new mechanical fuel pump installed ran good until we needed gas for hard climb then would only run on back tank. I know that the back tank has an electric pump on it because when they were changing the mechanical pump turned key on and had gas coming to the intake side of pump. Don't think that front tank has electric pump as the front tank only works good when it is cool or going downhill. Don't know how to get electric pump on front tank but I think that that would make the mh run good on the front tank as well. Some of you knowledgeable people want to let me know what you think and how to take care of this problem? Thank you.

Ron8877, Im guessing that your rubber lines need replacing. They're probably sucking air from cracks and loose fittings. I know that that's not what you want to hear, but the symptoms are classic.

Hmm, ALL Wanderlodge fuel lines are copper. In fact the house water system, air system for suspension and brakes is ALL copper. Still seems to be working OK after 26 years.
On the supject of the thread, 200k miles towing all over this great country with various 454 vehicles, I learned that the HEI distributor is the most likely componenet to give you trouble. It's a good idea to carry a spare complete with cap, coil and set of wires. The comments relating to fuel recirculation are very well taken.

I suspect after thinking about it and listening to the info on here, that is it vaporlock, or gas boiling in the carb.
I changet the fan clutcn 2 yrs ago, but now tha ti think of it, i have not heard the fan running after a long climb like it used to do, bet it is bad and carb is to hot.
will check that out and let u know

When I had my holiday rambler with a 454 a similar problem developed. After many trips to many mechanics, a truck center, after giving emergency assistance found a 3rd fuel filter above the propane tank. One filter on the carb, one in line filter, and this third filter near the tank hidden by the propane tank and covered with grit. Once found and serviced regularly the problem never reoccurred. Hope you are as lucky. Happy Trails.

Hi,
I had the same problem, on my 454. I changed all the same things mentioned.
I turned to be the mass air flow sensor. Replaced that and solved problem.
