I had to fix a hole in my 5er. Went to Wal-Mart auto section and picked up Bondo with fiberglass fibers already in the mix. I mixed it per the instructions on the can. I put it in the hole in several layers sanding between layers. This sets up in minutes. After sanding the last time I sprayed the area with white (Fusion Rustoleum paint for plastic)then sanded with 1800 grit sandpaper. If you do not know where the hole was at I would almost defy someone to find it. This fix was much easier than fiberglass mat.

Two ideas come to mind, one of which is free. I can send you a free decal that is red, black and white that reads "Don't Mess with TEXAS" and you can just over up the damage.
Or go to your local home improvement store and purchase a sheet of diamond plate aluminum, cut it to the size of the door and over lay it on the exterior. You could use double sided tape, adhesive, or screw it in place.
OR if you want to have a little personal fun with yourself....
Thought number three which just came to mind. Kind of the same as thought number two, but rather than using diamond plated aluminum, use an old stop sign. Or maybe a sign that reads "Objects in mirror maybe closer than they appear"
My last trip I ran over something metal in the highway. Blew out a rear truck tire and shot whatever it was into the area underneath the front cap. Ended up with 3 areas of damage. One is a round perforation line in just the shell, around the size of a roll of duct tape. Another is a complete hole through the shell and underlying wood, the size of a golfball. And finally another dent just around the corner from the hole, on the left side.
I guess I'll try the Bondo w/ fiberglass. Sounds like the easiest fix.
I did the same thing on my old 5er and had a sheet of aluminum diamond tread plate cut to size. Put that in the frame of the door. Looked better than new and one heck of a lot more durable.
