Hi everyone out there..Your friendly cop with the problems again...My latest problem is my generator and my charging system...I had a new starter put on my generator and when I went to start it, it just clicked a few times...my generator man told me to check the batteries.....did that and now my rv guy says that my power converter is gone....he tested it and it came back reading 14 and 15 volts then dropped down..//My question is has anyone ever changed one, where can I find one and is it hard to do....Again as always thank you for your help
http://www.bestconverter.com Just added a Charge Wizard to our Intellipower 9100. If it had been bad, to remove it would have been four screws. Disconnect the positive and negative cables and a ground. Any Progressive Dynamic 9100 or 9200 series would have been fairly easy. Had I gone to a higher amp output version Likely would have gone larger positive and negative wiring. Some converters plug in and some are hard wired. Ours plugs in making a retrofit fairly easy. I think yours is a Magnatek ??? There is an upgrade kit if I remember correctly. Nice web site for information and good company to do business with. But why would you think it is bad at 14 or 15 volts. Boost is 14.3 drops to 13.6 then floats at 13.2 on most with the smart charge capabilities. A little plus or minus on your voltmeter tells me that is right there on a desulphate or boost cycle.

Randy at Bestconverter will set you up with an easy kit for the conversion.
I suggest the Xantrex XADC-40 unless you have three or more batteries then the 60 and four or more batteries the 80 amp. With 60 or 80 you may need to upgrade the wires to the battery.
PD is good but get the 60 minimum. WFCO is good but stay smaller like 35 amps unless you have more than two batteries.
what was the converter voltage to the batteries?
13+ is normal, will float at 13.8 with fully charged batteries
models from the late 80's to 90's have a limited 3 amp charge circuit, so it takes a long time to charge any batteries that are low.
some very early units did not have a charge circuit at all, the converter powered the camper when hooked up but did NOT charge the battery, that had to be done by the truck to T-V with the engine running, i have seen these units in Lance truck campers
you might need to replace your converter, but you need to verify what you have and what is 'happening' before you do this
