We have a Dirt Devil in our trailer and really like it.
nelsoje, that is a great idea on the steps. I am going to look into doing that on ours to store the central vac accessories.

We have the Dirt Devil in out Titanium with for some reason at least 2 sets of attachments including the power heads. It does fine for general clean up but really doesn't suck up the imbedded dirt that seems to go with RV'ing and campgrounds. When it gets too bad, we dig out the old Eureka upright and give the unit a good cleaning. Would I ask for that option again - sure, it's inexpensive, it works fine, but for sure isn't as good as an upright with a beater bar.

I should warn you it was much more work than I expected. If I had it to do over again I think I would pitch the carpeted steps and create new ones. Forest River used about 50 staples per step! The end result is well worth it but I believe I worked hard, not smart. Although I did do the whole job for the price of 2 piano hinges.

Since ours already has wooden steps I was thinking it may make the job a little easier. I took one of the steps out of our old 5th wheel and I know what you mean about the staples.

Hey there all. I thought that I would give my view as I'm a firm believer of Central vacs. My unit didn't come with one but the previous trailer I put one in so I took it with, the dealer wanted $1000 to install one!!!!!! No way. Anyway I have a Eureka Yellow Jacket Eureka Yellow Jacket
I got it at a local Vacuum dealer for around $160 but I also got the full sized air driven power nozzle (not the little one for stairs and such) it works great for the cat hair, the floor tool that comes with the vacuum isn't that great unless you have flat carpet which our has a pile to it. I installed the outlet on the step and mounted the vacuum unit so that I can access the top to change the bag. It is in the basement storage behind the divider wall. I also installed another outlet inside the basement to use in the truck or to clean out the storage compartments. I have noticed that others still use their big vacuums when you get home and I have to admit that I do too. I have central vac at home so I take out the hose and power head from the house. It does give it a little better cleaning as the power head is a lot more aggressive then the air driven one. The suction is far better then any other vac that I have had any experience with. That goes for in the house too.
Happy cleaning!

Thanks to all who have posted here. I can see that, while most of you favor the central vac, you still use a home vac when you want it =clean=. :-) One other question that comes to mind is what is the cost of installing one as a factory option? As I'm leaning towards a Montana, I'd love to hear from the Montana people on this. It seems that it may be one of those small, convenient add-ons that don't cost much, until you add a dozen of them, and you've just increased the price of your rig by $2,500. :-)

Those that have the Dirt Devil Vac, can you get a carpet attachment with beater bar (electric that is not air driven)
I am considering adding this setup to my 2010 Laredo but have wondered how clean it would get the carpets.
Thanks

As I said, we have a 2009 3455SA Montana. The central vac came with the unit so I have no idea what the actual cost would be if it was ordered as an option. The unit and attachments are in it's own cabinet in the kitchen island.

We have had the central vac on 3 of our 5er and in all three the kick plate vac was used the most. Dragging out the long hose and vac heads are the disadvantage. I recomend the Dyson Vac on the ball, since I do run all the Vac's, we have the big Dyson and the Dyson on the ball and the cordless Dyson. Over the years we have owned several different Vac's, and none will do what the Dyson's do. If you want the best buy a Dyson, they Suck. GBY....
