Can you explain the fabric softener? This is new to me?

We use fabric softener in our tanks... it is very 'slickery'...

our black tank is white poly, and after starting to use the fabric softener, we can see 'light' down the toilet when you flush... helps keep everything from sticking, I guess...

BTW... we are set up to dump at home, and our winter weekends never fill the tanks, so we just dump when we get back home... we live near sea-level, and it's not below freezing very often...

Halogen lights do put out a lot of heat but so much so they get scorching hot to the touch. Be very careful they are not near anything that can melt, catch fire, etc. We've had good luck with just a regular incandecent bulb or small ceramic heater set on low. Both are much safer.

Roger that...the halogens that I use have a protective shields and I place them very carefully as they throw a lot of heat. Regular incandecent bulbs wouldn't work in my wet bay as the pump is right there and very exposed.

Just a couple more point that may not have been mentioned. I have cut plastic bubble insulation for all the windows. This is the flexible aluminum stuff with bubble pack in the middle. Especially needed on the windshield because it doen't have double pain glass. Tank dumping! I have found that small towns will often allow an RV'er to pull a man hole cover on their sewer system and dump there. Seweer covers are on every street. If you talk nice most will pull the cover for you. I always make a donation to the office donut fund! Winter camping is really fun and enjoyable, but be prepared!!! In really cold temp a small problem can turn into a major desaster in very short order! Loss of shore power or a gen problem will turn your coach into an ice box in a mater of hours if not minutes! Good luck, JDA

OK I have a problem with my screen door icing on the bottom and freezing shut along the bottom. I've had to use a hair dryer to thaw out the bottom edge to get out of the rig. Any suggestions?

I just did a winter trip, temperatures down to -16C. I have an Aquahot equipped coach, and everything was fine and very warm, except that I got home, parked it in front of my house, and since it was late I left winterizing it until the next day. The Aquahot went off by itself and I froze and split a small section of hot water hose.

Small problem except that being a motorhome, access is restricted and it was tough to replace. I learned a lesson, don't count on the heater if you are not sleeping in the coach.

Awesome photos of snow. It reminds us of this past spring's storm when we had 6 foot drifts from a 2 foot snowfall. Luckily the barn blocked most of the north wind so the largest drifts landed beside the coach not on top of it! We've already had our 1st storm, netting 6 inches.

We keep our trouble/drop light with protective guard & 60w bulb right on top of the pump and keeps it quite toasty and from freezing right down to -25.

propane 1320 and anyone else living in edmonton, i found 2 new dump stations today that are apparently open year round. one is at an RV/truck wash at the intersection of Highway 60 and Yellowhead, the other is at a truck wash at 60 ave and 99th street. They don't look like much but they're there and I'll be using them during the next few months because I'm renting my motorhome to friends who are doing a major kitchen reno and need a portable kitchen on their driveway. I'll need to go and dump the tanks and refill propane about every week or so. I used the rig this past weekend at Pigeon Lake in -10 celcius temps every night with no problems. we were the only ones in the entire campground...it was awesome. we used 2 electric space heaters and a 75 watt light bulb in the wet bay. there was enough heat leaking through the floor to keep the basement above freezing. the furnace hardly ever ran. we had to run an extension cord to the adjacent campsite to steal power for the second heater as they only have 15 amp power there. one of those heaters eats a circuit all by itself.

good luck in the snow.
