Plans have been changed on our work/vacation trip. We will have our first stop in Ashville, NC for three days.

Bobbi has to fly out from AVL to PHY and then drive to Willingsboro NJ to work one day and then drive to Neptune NJ for the next day work.

This leaves me with the MH and toad to catch up with her in Neptune from Mid day Wednesday to Friday. I will have my co pilot Drake (yellow rescue lab) to help navigate.

What is the best way to go? I am looking at I-81 to avoid Washington /Baltimore but is it mountanious travel (up one hill down another)? I'm not fortunate enough to have a powerful diesel to climb the hills with any speed.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Or come over to I-95 to Chesapeeke bridge and tunnel to Delmarva then Lowes Ferry to New Jersey. Then Garden state to points north. Just stay in right toll booth lanes, as they are for wide loads.

Just did this trip a year ago. I-81 is the only way to go, some hills but nothing earth shaking.

There is nothing that concerns me on that part of I-81.

You're talking some real costs with the I 95/bridge tunnel/Cape May Ferry route. www.capemaylewesferry.com will give you info on the ferry. We wouldn't go that route.

I 81 is fine, just took it Sbound yesterday- from NJ.(Del Water Gap) If you are anything like me, you don't want to drive I 95 in the DC/Balt area. DC traffic is a nightmare, and you can't go through the Balt tunnel- take the Key Bridge. An option to miss this, take I 81 to I 70 to I 695 - you will then hook up w/ I 95 above Balt. Take the Delaware Memorial Bridge into Jersey. You can then easily connect w/ I 295 or the NJTP. Not the shortest route-but the extra miles are a tradeoff to DC/Balt. Safe travels, Kathy

I second I-81. I drive it all the time with and without m/h. Nothing significant to worry about and the traffic is lighter than 95.

I have driven my 2004 DSDP, from Florida to NY for the last 6 summers. We always take 77 to 81 in Virgina to 84 at Scranton,PA. then east to NY. Don't recall any grades steep enough to cause you any problems. If I had to take 95 all the way, I wouldn't go as often.
