Going through the Blue Ridge Parkway on our way to Florida. Would appreciate receiving any advice as to campgrounds immediately before, through, and immediately after the Parkway. We are travelling in a Roadtrek 19P.

Thanks

With the Roadtrek, you shouldn't have any problems with campsite size.

Where do you plan to get on the parkway.....Up at the north end, in Virginia, on the Skyline Drive (Shenandoah Nat'l Park) or down at the lower end of the park where the BRP begins?

There are a couple of campgrounds on the Skyline Drive, and I'm sure that there are quite a few just off the BRP. You should be able to find information on-line.
HERE is a link to the BRP site for camping.
Skyline Drive Link

Also pretty sure that others will chime in with specific parks to try....
When do you plan to make the trip? It's going to be beautiful as the leaves change, but it will also make it pretty popular, so you may have trouble finding a place to stay.

have a great trip!!

The Parkway is beautiful already. I am looking at it as I type. If you travel from the North end to the South end you will have Otter Creek CG at milepost 60, Peaks of Otter CG at MP 86, Roanoke Mtn at MP 120, Rocky Knob at MP 167, Doughton Park at MP 239, Julian Price at MP 297, Linville Falls at MP 316, Crabtree Meadows at MP 339, and Mt Pisgah at MP 408. REMEMBER: all Parkway campgrounds close on Nov 1--so hopefully you are travelling before that date. Have a good trip--watch the road and enjoy the view.

In addition to the primitive NP CGs above. There are a few private, full hookup CGs on the BRP. Raccoon Holler, at Glendale springs, Miller Camp, about 8 miles north of there, and Bear den, Near Linville/ Spruce Pines.
As mentioned. Call these before you go.

Come visit! Don't wait too long. Here's how the leaves looked near Grandfather Mountain this past Tuesday, October 6.

There are always plenty of spots at the campground here.

Thanks for the information, so far.

I did not realize that the campgrounds closed November 1st. We are leaving on October 31st, so this may not be the best time to travel. Any information on the availability of private campgrounds along the route.

We are travelling from the north (I-64) and would like to take our time to enjoy the trip.

Any information, as well, on the amount of time we should allow for the trip.

Tryy Mountain Stream RV Park in Marion, NC. At the base of the mountains and access to Blue Ridge just 5 miles away. Great place..... they use to close after Thanksgiving but their website now shows year round rates.

They have lots of pics of the CG and activities on their site and now have pics of every site. They renovated a lot of sites last couple of years. Took out a few to make some larger etc. We visited Mt Mitchell and Grandfather Mountain.. and one day we drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Asheville then took I-40 back to the CG.

Site pics. Click on this link and then scroll down half way or so. As you click on a site # you'll see the site pic in a window near the left side of the screen. If you don't see it -- scroll down more. Get a site along the stream if you can...it is heavenly.

Meadows of Dan, VA is one to check out. Small, quiet, most likely will be open. See website for info. Located just off Parkway close to NC border.

a word of warning about Mountain Stream. You will need to go down 221, and then over to 80, the road on which it is on. You do not want, or need to try to tow, or drive a MH down 80 from the BRP. There are signs telling you not to. Many 180 degree turns that a large MH just would really have trouble making on the first try. Always be careful which roads you pick to get off the parkway on. Many are not suitable for towing, or MHs.
Mountain Stream is a very pretty park at the foot of the mountain.
To get there you wi pass Tom Johnson Camping Center. He has a huge CG open all year round. Full hookups, and paved pads, with a snack bar, and central meeting center. 1-800-225-7802.
Also try http://www.springmaidmountain.com. Spring Maid Mountain. 1-888-297-725. It is near Spruce Pines, the CG, and the cabins are open all year. Would be the closest / easiest, to the BRP.

Also mamny private CGs up there close OCT 31. It gets real cold on the mountain, and pipes freeze if not running. So they cut the water off.

We stayed at Bear Den campground near Spruce Pine a couple of years ago and loved it. Great campground nestled into the woods with trails to walk and a fishing pond.
