Heads up travelers...the NWS has posted a severe weather advisory for most of Southern Oregon and Northern California starting Monday nite.
Lots of wind and rain thru the I-5 corridor. The alert is from the coast to the Eastern state borders. Should clear up towards end of week.
Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 2:54 PM PDT on October 10, 2009
... Windy and wet weather beginning Monday night into Tuesday...
A strong early season Pacific weather system will move in Monday
night into Tuesday bringing locally strong and gusty southeast to
southwest winds across much of the region. Gale force winds are
expected along and near the coast... and winds of 30 to 50 mph are
expected across the higher mountains. Valley areas prone to
channeling southeast to southwest winds such as the Shasta and
rogue valleys... the upper Klamath basin... and Lake County near
Valley Falls are also likely to experience breezy and gusty winds
on Tuesday. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph at locations such as
Ashland... Klamath Falls and Valley Falls... with gusts of 50 to 60
mph in the Shasta Valley near Weed.
Strong south flow and plentiful subtropical moisture will keep
snow levels above 6500 feet for the duration of the storm system.
Precipitation amounts along and near south facing slopes of Curry
and much of Siskiyou County are likely to be in the one to four
inch range. The highest amounts... likely in the 3 to 5 inch
rain... are expected on and near favored areas of Mount Shasta.
The wet weather is likely to linger into Thursday for many
locations before coming to an end.

Interesting. Up here (Willamette Valley), they are saying we might get a few showers next week.

Interesting. I just checked Weather Underground for the Willamette Valley and they have a Severe Weather alert on their site, which actually is very close to the NWS forecast for the area.

According to the forecast discussion from the Seattle area NOAA office, the various computer models give different results for late in the week. All predict rains, but the amounts and windiness differ.
Quote: THE SYSTEM OF MAIN CONCERN IN THE EXTENDED PERIOD IS THE ONE FOR LATER THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY. THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GET TAPPED INTO A TROPICAL MOISTURE STREAM. THE CANADIAN AND THE GFS BREAK THIS TROPICAL TAP OFF AT SOME POINT THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY WHILE THE ECMWF KEEPS THE TROPICAL TAP INTACT AND STALLS THE SYSTEM OVER WESTERN WASHINGTON FROM THURSDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING.

We're headed out to the land of warmth and sun next Sunday. Looks like everything will be calmer by then.
