I'm looking for 2 replacement roof a/c units with heat pumps and I'm wondering if anyone has experience of noise/quality of the makes that I have found
I have found good prices on
Carrier
Coleman
DuoTherm
I have two old Colemans at the moment and they are very noisy and don't throw out much air so I'm looking for 13,500 units to improve matters.
How easy are they to replace - it doesn't look like a difficult job.
Noise is subjective, but I'm sure you will acclamate to whatever noise it happens to put out. The manufacturers may be able to tell you what the db rateing on their particular product is, but that's information only and it's not going to change anything. It is what it is..
A half a mill or more will do the trick. The big boys running those big rigs with the basement A/C have the answer. But, for us other folks who need 11,500/13,500 btu roof top units, we'll have to hear the noise. For me, I'm working on the idea of adding a 6,000 btu window type unit, in the back bed room. Not hanging out a window. So maybe we can sleep in peace.
Maybe someone will give us the story, which one of the roof type units are the most quiet.
Whatever I get will be quieter than what I have LOL
Carrier seem to be cheaper and I know that they will be 'noisy' by the very nature of how they work - I just wondered if someone would respond with a 'don't buy x because they are horrendously noisy units'
Correct terminology would simply be "heat pumps" - not AC's with HP.
Noise is mostly generated by the fans and of course resonates with quality of ducting, insulation, etc.
Now for reasons only known by a higher power, compressors are not all created alike. Some are inherently noisier than others. In other words two side by side, of same brand and size, one could be noticeably noisier than the other.
As to your question, most likely they WILL be quieter.
I would be hard pressed to say one is quieter than the other only because the roof designs of the RV's amplify the noise like a loudspeaker. design and brand combinations are infinite.
It would be nice to see one manufactured with less vibrations, which would obviously result in a much more quiet unit.
