Which program do you prefer? And why...
Which is the best at finding campgrounds along a route?
Which is best at changing routes the software chooses? When I create a map in Google I can drag the route line to change the route - does any software do that?
We have a 60 day free trial of MS Streets & Trips and I don't like it as much as Google Maps. But - we need maps when we're driving and not connected to the Internet.
TIA for any and all input!

I prefer building routes using Street Atlas, however most users describe Streets & Trips as easier to use...

Over the years I have used about all of the map services and have always came back to Delorme. The 2010 Plus version really has some great features in the FIND POI's section. To change the route right click on the route an add a Via. Check Delorme's web site and see if they have a Demo version.

Streets and Trips has the Woodalls Campground directory locations.
Another product for finding campgrounds is the Trailer Life Directory on CD. I don't care for the trip routing portion. It does work but I like S&T better. Trailer life does have the GPS system available and works with the puck that comes from Microsoft made by Pharos.

After setting up your route in S&T you can do a left click on that route and then right click and select "find nearby places". S&T will find all POIs, including campgrounds, along your route. At the bottom of the FIND NEARBY PLACES window you can set the distance along your route that you want to search. Before doing a search go to VIEW, SHOW OR HIDE PLACES and make certain CAMPGROUNDS is checked under the PLACES tab.
You can drag and drop your route to any road in S&T.

We tried both Streets and Trips and Delorme's Street Atlas and settled with Delorme.
That being said, each program has a lot of supporters.
Often it depends on which one you get used to using first.

IMO S&T is the easiest to use. For finding campgrounds the best is Trailer Life Campground CD. It is also good for planning, you can drag the route to change it. It also is the only one that will give you grades along a route.
I have S&T, DeLorme, and TL and use each for route planning since each gives different additional information.

I used S&T for years - bought 2001, 2003, & 2006 versions. Tried DeLorme Street Atlas (SA) with the 2009 version bought with a USB GPS puck. I am still trying to get used to the differences between the programs, so I tend to agree with a previous poster on the "one you get used to" point. One of the reasons I went away from S&T was that rivers and streams are poorly displayed and infact many disappear entirely from view as you zoom in. I still use the 2003 version because those same rivers are there in 2003 version and gone in the 2006 version at certain zoom-in levels. Highly annoying! SA is an improvement in this area, but it is only a small improvement.

Streets & Trips is by far the easiest to use. Also, the 2010 version lets you save your route straight to your Garmin GPS into the GPX folder. One stop shopping to get you reoute created in S&T to your Garmin. I have had all 3 and much prefer S&T for ease and quickness. You can download a trial version and use it free for 60 days from Microsoft. You better have a fast Internet connection since it is a 1.3 Gig download. It took me a little under 2 hours to download it.

Thanks everyone for your input! It looks like pretty much a toss up...
I lean towards Street Atlas because:
1. It's not Microsoft.
2. It's not Microsoft.
etc.
The only problem is that there is no demo version and I would have to buy it sight unseen.
So - two big questions for Street Atlas users:
1. Can you hook up a Garmin device and move routes or waypoints directly to the unit or must I be hooked up to the internet to do the exchange? It looks like with the MS product it uses the internet and MSN Direct only.
2. Is the campground database as good as Streets and Trips? I do like the Woodall's listings...
