What is "Winterizing" ? I don't think that we do that here in Texas (grin).

If you guys blow the readily freezable water out of the water lines, WHY do you then pump in not-easily frozen pink stuff ?

I thought that it was EITHER - OR. To me, the reason to blow out the lines is to have the lines DRY and NOT have to deal with the mess in the clean-up of the pink stuff.

Doing both sounds like overkill to me......

Summerhouse, I forgot to mention that I use a blow out plug on the water inlet that I connect the compressor to.

Healeyman, (Tim)

I would rather be guilty of overkill than face a plumbing problem in the spring!!! Some folks may just do one or the other.

I think a lot of folks who live up North do exactly the same thing. Not worth the pain and aggravation to take a shortcut. All it takes is for a little condensation to remain in the lines somewhere and ..................

I am still in denial!! I was looking at the weather forecast in Virginia south of DC. It looks good for next weekend and the first part of the week after.. Mid 60's!! They will drag me kicking and screaming all the way to the winter storage the 1st of November!!

Work keeps getting in the way!!

Hi John,

I did not mean to be hyper-critical, but I know a bunch of folks do one or the other, but not both.

It takes a LOT more than a "little condensation" for freezing temperatures to cause a problem in RV water lines.

The water that is freezing MUST be hydrostatically constrained in a confined space that prevents expansion. If freezing water is not constrained, it will not create enough pressure to rupture the container/water line. That is why the ice cube trays do not split open in a freezer. The tops are open and the water expands upward.

I truly understand your "belt AND suspenders" approach and if I lived in the frozen north I might feel that way too.

What ever happened to year-around use? In well over 30 years of motorhome use, we've never 'winterized' - we've used the MH year around. Snowmobiling and skiing in the winter, boating and camping in the spring-summer-fall. We do keep it in the garage when not in use, but have enjoyed winter use at least as much as warm weather use. Thanksgiving turkey in a snow park - new years in a lodge reached via snowmobile from the MH - the good days!

Gary,

Our rig does not have a heated basement, has single pane windows and is not the greatest for cold weather camping. We are also not into winter sports..

Stored our rig today for the winter. Found a nice place for $30 a month where it is on blacktop and secure.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

Sad but true..... Our summer was cool this year and our fall was not as long as it should have been. Cold and rainy weather moved into our area pretty fast this year.... I paid for storage till March and am hoping maybe we get an early/nice spring so we can be on the go again.... Glad I was able to get the waxing done before it got really nasty around here.
