Oh boy, here it goes.....the periodic dog barking and pooping thread. OP, please understand, there are a lot of dog haters out there. Just like everything else, different strokes for different folks. Please just follow the rules, and if the rules don't suit you...move on.

So far We've been lucky. Our pooch, Woody ( a Beagle) has been remarkably quiet. He's used to being alone in the house, for extended periods, as both my wife and I work. When we travel he is left alone in the trailer, where he is comfortable (usually our bed), while we are out sight seeing. We have never had anyone comment about him barking while we were out. In fact on one occasion, we were out the better part of the day, and when we got back and let him out, the neighbors said, "Hey, Woody's Back." When I told them he was in the trailer all day, they could not believe how quiet he was. They had no idea he was even there. As I said earlier I guess we've just been lucky.

Haven't noticed the dog haters on this thread. What I am reading are posts from dog owners, one after the other, claiming the rules don't apply to them because their dogs are quiet. Kind of like the alcoholic sitting around the fire drinking discreetly in a no alcohol park. Rules don't apply to everybody.
I have been in more than a few campgrounds where dogs bark all day while the owners are gone. The dogs that wail all day are lonely, not because anyone is bothering them or they are disturbed by noises.

I really think the members on this forum "get it" - that barking dogs are one of the biggest gripes in campgrounds.
I have a suggestion: rather than sit around and gripe about barking dogs - and making assumptions that ALL dogs bark....why not simply stick a note on the offending RV containing the barking dog - notifying the owners?? Some dogs are smart and will NOT bark until the owners are out of earshot??
And the sad fact remains that there are COUNTLESS bark-stop products out there: electric and citronella-spray collars, sonic units, etc. Maybe if the owner of a barking dog gets enough "love notes" - they'll actually do something about it??
MY dogs don't bark - mainly because we walk the daylights out of them before we leave. Sleeping dogs don't make much noise....LOL!!!
"I do think that folks with dogs (and we have one) think their dogs are perfect....folks that don't have dogs are always crabby about those that do.....folks that don't camp with kids are always crabby about those that do....folks that camp with kids never see the stuff their kids are doing in the campground. (Just my opinion and experiences camping for the past 22 years")
Tumwatergal...I think this quote is very funny and true!!
Could have not said it better!
I want to thank all of you for you comments, I know that everyone has their own opinions and varied experiences and I think they are all valid, after all they are experiences each of you have had. It give me a wide variety of thought and ideas to take with me on my next outing, very helpful and insightful. I'm glad that a forum of this type is available for all of us that need help and advice.
wricoa wrote: I have only been RVing for this pas year. We have a dog an am not sure what to do with her when we leave the camp ground to do anything. Most campgrounds have a rule that you can not leave you pets unattended. I have to assume that most people do not follow this rule or no one with pets would be doing anything (like going out to dinner).
Any information on this subject would be appreciated.
WOW! The OP asked for advise for their dog when leaving for awhile--what it seems they got was how terrible everyone with a dog is--ease up all.

How about it. These threads are so predictable. I like 6 volt battery's................
BTW wricoa, we struggle with the same thing. We almost always take them with. The only issue is when it is really hot. Then only one of us goes in the store or such. Makes it a challenge to site wee. When hot, we do that from the truck and read historical markers ans such.
Good luck.

I make it a point to "always" ask my neighbors if my dog barks when left alone in the trailer. I do it for two reasons, one, I want to know if he barks, and two, I want my neighbors to know I'm thinking about it.
I have been told the only time they hear him bark is if someone comes along and knocks on my door. Then as soon as the knocking stops the barking stops. They told me they didn't mind that at all as it alerted them to the fact that a stranger was in the area.
Hahaha, this is another of those topics you'll get lots of very different answers to this question.
Especially in the RV community, you find many that practically worship their pets, and the pets basically defines their entire lives, almost more than a child would. Those are the ones that will tell you never to leave your dog alone EVER, no matter what. LOL, yeah thats realistic, isn't it?
Then, there are the ones like already mentioned, that think nothing of leaving their pet anywhere (outside or inside) when they leave, and don't think its a problem. We all know what that frequently results in.
IMHO, I'm not sure there is a 100% correct answer to this. Leave the dog in your RV, there's no telling what kind of damage they could do inside, or the nuisance they can be (like the incident noted earlier, 'bout the dog hitting the MH horn over and over). Leave the dog outside, and you create even bigger problems. Keeping them inside is probably the lesser of the two evils, but I don't like either option.
My vote, and what our solution is to this: LEAVE THE DOG AT HOME. Our dog does not go with us camping. Just too stressful on both the dog as well as us to do it any other way. Dog gets to stay at a friend's house when we camp, and everyone is much happier that way. Never have to worry about him barking and upsetting other campers, nor do we have to pick up the messes he leaves behind.
