This is really going to sound uneducated to all you vets who to a vehicle but here goes.
Would you order the tow bar and base plates on line or go to an RV dealer or CW and buy the complete system from the retailer? Or if you order this equipment online can you have it drop shipped to an installer and have them install the complete system? I'm going to have to tow a Honda Pilot 4 down and need to get educated sooner than later. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought my both my braking system and a tow bar used on line thru CraigsList. I then had a local hitch manufacturer/installer order and install a baseplate on my toad, as well as install the Roadmaster 9000 braking system in the toad and coach. While expensive, it was less than half of what buying the whole thing new thru any of the retailers I checked with.

Have you checked to see if your year Pilot can be towed? -- Chuck

I ordered all of my towing equipment online, saved over 1/3 from the installers price. I installed the base plate, but had the disconnect and lights done by a local installer. With today's economy, he was happy to have the work and did not care that I brought in my own equipment.

I bought my tow bar and toad bracket at CW, the Even Brake on Ebay from an rv dealer, the Protect-a-Tow from the manufacturer and the wireless tow lights from JCWhitney - saved a lot of money. I installed the bracket this week on our 2009 Escape.

Yep...already done that. Honda states tow 4 down just follow the procedure they recommend.

CW will only install if bought from them.

Best to check with any installer you will use about that.

Equipment will not be that large or heavy to put inside your vehicle and take it to the installer.

I bought all my needed parts on line and took them to a local auto body shop. He did a great job at a great price. Everything was $1865.

Online from a dealer on eBay and installed everything myself. Back in 2004, it all (including the Apollo brake unit) came to about $1700, plus shipping.
