There was a thread a few days ago where a number of people said the accessory didn't improve reception.

There have been many posts here regarding the Winegard Wingman add-on, with many folks seeing at least some improvement, including me. The Wingman by design only helps on the UHF channels, so the few hundred stations still broadcasting on VHF channels do not benefit from it. In my opinion, the upgrade is well worth the low cost and few minutes it takes to install it.

I was parked next to a couple who had the add on and they said that they received many more stations with it than without it.
It's something I'll have before our next trip.

I ran real-world field tests on the Wingman several months ago with a $50k spectrum analyzer, so I can tell you without debate that for UHF it absolutely DOES work. Those who claim it doesn't are simply too far out of the area. It's not a miracle worker, but for $30 it's excellent insurance.

HERE is the original post.

Tow questions: One answer: YES, twice

I put it on last spring, and it made an instant improvement in signal strength

That said there are some places where I had NO signal before modification and still don't.
