We head south during the first 2 weeks of December for the winter. We always stay our second night out at Americamp and have but one complaint. It is open, clean, convenient and the people are nice. But it is just as noisy as if we camped between the northbound and southbound lanes of I95.
Are you familiar with any other campgrounds (in that vicinity)that are open that time of year and not so noisy? When we leave there we are worn out from lack of sleep.
I've asked the same question before and have received some answers. There is an RV park at King's Dominion. The other suggestion I received was for the Elks, but I don't belong, but maybe you do...

Just south of Richmond is Pocahontas State Park, it's a few miles off I-95 in Chesterfield, nice & quiet, brand new camping loop added 2 years ago... Pocahontas SP... It's water & electric only, with a dumpstation... nice clean bathouses too!!

OK... a year ago I would not suggest this....but I drive by here several times a week and it looks like Kosmo Village CG has made some improvements.
Its on Rt 1 not far from the Lewistown exit off 95. Same exit as Bass Pro Shops and Rolling Hills RV.
It's basically a mobile home park behind... but they have them seperated from the "overnight" spots with a privacy fence line. They do not have public bathrooms.. but appear to have full hookups. There is a map on their website... you can also look at it with google maps or something with a satelite view.

I don't like to suggest places I have not stayed at....but I live a few miles from here and the area is fine.... no problems there.
I would do an overnight stay here if traveling...knowing the area.

We don't leave until two weeks later than you; but after 4 trips trying to find a campground that first night that 1) is open 2) allows us to remained hitched ... and level and 3) is near Rte 95, I've given up. This year we'll make it to Fredericksburg VA and stay in a hotel with a restaurant on their grounds for about $30 more than I've been paying at the campgrounds .... and they have RV/bus parking in a lighted area. Cherry Hill in MD wasn't far enough and too expensive; Prince William in Dumfries VA has sites too short to remain hitched (even for a 25' TT); and the Fredericksburg KOA's sites were so unlevel I had to unhook. Just noticed you were specifically asking about your SECOND NIGHT (sorry about that). We use the Santee State Park in Santee SC for less than $20. Camp on!
