My '03 Journey 32T has a switch in a cupboard above the stove marked "Water Heater" ......... but I don't believe it has anything to do with the hot water tank. Also, right beside it is an "Engine preheat" switch, but the block heater cord is dangling in the 120V electrical compartment below with nowhere to plug it in. What gives???

That switch is for the electric element in your water heater. You can run it on LP or electric or both if you want a fast recovery for a second shower or a long shower. Flip it on and it will draw about 15 amps so if you have a 30amp coach you may not have enough overhead to use it with the A/C on.

The block heater: you should find a normal 120v dual wall plug in the compartment to plug that cord into. Mine is way up in the upper right corner of the compartment. The switch is the hot to the wall plate.

The post above is correct for the water heater.

Thanks.... If its for the Hot water tank you would think they would put it with the other controls for it.
And the coach has 50 amp service with a 7.5 K genny so I should be OK.

Now what about the "Engine Preheat" ??

propane1320....If you bought the coach used, someone may have installed the electric rod (aftermarket product) in your water heater and wired the connection for it in that cabinet.

No, I'm pretty sure they are a factory install... same wall plates and properly (and identically) labeled...

I have to say, and with all due respect that someone living anywhere in Canada doesn't know what an engine heater is.

Anyway that switch controls an outlet in the rear bay. Either plugged into it or hanging next to it is a plug tied to an engine block heater sitting in the oil sump. Not needed above 40, starts nicer down to 30 with less smoke, and that's as far as I know in this climate.

From your description I believe those are on/off switches to prevent the block heater and the water heater from consuming current from the 120 volt pedestal power when you need to operate the microwave oven and only have 30 amp pedestal service. These are common in RV's and are usually located near the microwave oven. You pop your food in the microwave, open those two switches, and then start the microwave to cook your food. When you are done with the microwave you turn the water heater and the block heater back on. Keeps you from going outside in your pajamas to reset the pedestal circuit breaker when you heat that midnight snack.
