I don't understand the part that says "cycle the icemaker several times". I've shut off the water supply, blown water out of the line from the supply to the valve. Blown the water out of the valve to the icemaker. Dried the maker where the cubes are made. I don't understand how you can "cycle the ice maker several times".

Any ideas?

TIA.

Scott,

If you removed all the water from the fresh water supply to the ice-maker's solenoid valve and the water from the solenoid to the freezer tray, you should be find. That's all I ever do. However, in order to to do this properly you need to remove both hoses/connections at the solenoid. I believe the bit about running a couple of cycles is for those that do not remove the hoses and you need the ice-maker to cycle in order to open the solenoid valve and let the water out/pink antifreeze in. I hope this makes sense?

Here's the way I cycle mine:
1. Lever "Down" in ice making mode.
2. Remove plastic cover on front of ice maker.
3. Rotate large gear in direction of arrow on gear. (I rotate mine clock-wise.) It's hard to turn, but only needs moved slightly before the ice maker will start it's cycle. Jack

You did what I do. I drain the line, the solenoid and dry the well in the ice maker itself and it's been fine. Actually you don't even need to remove water from the ice maker itself since, by function, it's supposed to freeze.

Exactly...unscrew your ice maker line; it will drain and your done. Run pink stuff up to the shut off valve.

There is a way...crude and rude to make the icemaker cycle quite quickly...my RV dealer mechanic showed me how (I forget), because I found the ice maker too problematic for winterization....and the wife complained it took too much room from the freezer.
So... after shutting off the water valve and disconnecting the electrics, I took it out and we make ice the old fashioned way...using a couple of ice trays. Company? Spring for a couple bucks and buy a bag of ice and dump that into a small cooler.
Works for me..............

I can see getting the water out of the line that runs up the back of the fridge because it might freeze because of the vent behind the fridge letting cold air in........The ice maker inside the freezer "Lives" in temps of 0 or below, it doesn't need "Winterizing", since it thinks it's winter all the time....

Or you could turn on the refrigerator, leave the water pump and ice maker on, put the siphon hose in a gallon of RV antifreeze and wait for the line after the solenoid to get pink.

Just another option, and one that I did this past weekend.

In the Spring, I'll drain the icemaker lines and then run several cycles (until the container fills with ice) with fresh water.

Discard the ice, replace the bypass pipe with a new water filter and I'm done.

Just unscrew the line from the solenoid valve to the ice maker. Let it drain. Be sure to reconnect the line after draining so you won't flood it in the future. Simple.

I think the point of cycling the icemaker is simply to make sure that all the ice is out. I do that by simply shutting off the water supply the day before, draining the plastic line at the solenoid, and letting the machine perform its normal cycle which expels the last of the ice into the bucket. After turning off the freezer, I then dry the icemaker , and drain the water from the supply line and water filter. (My trailer has a third fresh water drain for this line.) This proceedure will avoid any formation of mould etc.in the icemaker.

I would NEVER introduce RV antifreeze into the icemaker system as it would be more difficult (IMO) to remove all traces in the ice before using it next time, and is unlike being able to flow water continuously through the other piping and tanks where you might use the antifreeze.
