Are RVs supposed to stop at all truck weigh stations? I would think that most states would have different regulations for RVs. I passed a truck weigh station years back in Nebraska and was stopped by a state trooper asking why I didn't stop. I told him that I did not realize that a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer was supposed to stop. He let me go with just a warning. Your knowledge of this will be greatly appreciated.
Just purchased a 30ft 5er and plan on going south in January 2010.

Many years back, in Missouri, all trucks including pickups had to stop at all weigh stations for proper licensing verification. Now only commercial vehicles are required to stop.
It's only commercial vehicles that are required to stop in all states now, not private use RVs.

I drove by several on my last westward trip. All were open staffed by State Troopers and none batted an eye.

RV's never have had to stop... But have had to stop crossing state lines hauling stock (Mules) in a stock trailer to verify health of animals with health certificates.

He was right. SD & IA have a similar laws for pickups and utility trailers - but they generally wave you thru. Rental trucks are required to stop - ever since 2001. Signs are posted in the rental offices with that notification.
RV's don't have to stop, unless ordered by a State authority - to my knowledge none have done so. So please DO NOT STOP and clog up the "coops".

That's different - all stock trailers are required to stop.

I wouldn't be so quick to say never.
The NASCAR guys and some others like them have been harassed by some of the state weigh stations for those with RV type busses towing 11k + trailers.
On the other hand, if you're driving a Class A towing an obvious two axle vehicle, not used of cargo, then you can probably zip right on by.
For the OP - pulling a utility trailer with a pickup sure doesn't fall in the category of RV. OTOH - pulling a 5ver with a pickup does.
It's liken to the duck story - if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and paddles like a duck, then it's probably a duck. if it doesn't, well I think we all see the point.

In Canada the sign posted as you approach a wiegh station will say "RV exempt". It looks like they could be asked to stop, but I've never seen the sign say that RV's were not exempt.
I have heard that in BC DOT checks are done on RV's to ensure proper wieghts. But I have not driven my RV into BC to find out if this is the case.
In Alberta many of the weigh stations are self serve, and if empty I have used them just to see what my rig does weigh.
