Hi all. Stumbled along this forum and started reading. Was about to buy a Generac generator both for portable use and in the event my home power went out. There seems to be a lot of dislike for this brand on this site.
I've also noticed here and on other sites people recommend units with Subaru engines. Seems Husky make a 5000 watt model sold at home depot. Any opinions?
I've read a bit of the 6.5 ohv CHONDA thread, but since I want it to serve multiple purposes I thought I'd go a little bigger.

Might I suggest the Champion 3500/4000 watt for around $350 give or take. Should do you just fine.

Thanks. I had noticed people seem to like the Champion generators. Too bad my local Lowe's don't carry them at the $329 price.

Why don't you check out the Generac site and see how they are built. I just bought the 6500 watt and had it installed in my truck bed to power the fifth wheel. It is very,very quiet.

as long as you're not going to use the Husky at the campground, it's a decent generator, but really loud. i think there are a lot better ones out there. you can get the Champion at a lot of different places, including Home Depot's website. they've got the best customer service i've seen for generators.

They look like some nice generators, I couldn't find any reference to how loud they are, they do look a little pricey however, way way more than a grand and a half for the Quietpact 45G.

Thanks all for the replies.
The reason for mentioning Home Depot was my local store had the Generac GP5500 and GP7000E on sale at hundreds below what I can find them for online ($549/$699). They also had a Husky with a Subaru engine ($499).

In answer to Pritch272 the db reading standing next to the generator is 59/60 db. That was with my radio shack db meter. But in all fairness I must tell you it is because the generator is enclosed in an aluminum box / tool box. You can see it here. www.mountainmaster.com. It is the 6500 watt model.
